Ive said this before, but Id be surprised if we waived his unwritten NTC for the D Backs. As much as he wants to stay in Chicago, I wouldnt be surprised if he agreed to go to a real contender like the Phillies, Yankees, Red Sox, or Rangers, but for such a fringe contender like the D Backs, I dont think hed be willing to make the move. Maybe we can interest them in an overpaid LOOGY instead.

Actually Arizona would be one place I would think he might consider waiving his NTC for as I believe he has a home in the Phoenix area.

Is it shocking news that the D-Backs want to "look at" Wood? He is low paid and good. Doesn't mean they will be willing to give up nearly enough to justify the Cubs asking him to waive the NTC.

No, it's not shocking, but I thought it was worth a post.

Thanks for the insightful reply.

Im just going to come out and say this, and it might not be a popular sentiment. Kerry Wood gave us some great years, but need to stop treating him like hes some kind of [expletive] Chicago sports icon. He had the stuff to be a legit ace, and when healthy, he looked like one, but that was too few and far between to treat him like some kind of legend. Yes, he was a huge part of the 2003 push, nobody will ever forget that 20 K performance. However, if he ever makes a hall of fame ballot, he wont make it past the first year, and Im not so sure his number will even be retired. He was injured far too often to hit his potential, and it was great to see him come back and give us a great deal as a 7th inning guy, but if someone gives us a good offer for him, we should take it, and if he really cares about the Cubs so much, he'll know its whats best, and if he wants to come back next year for another 1.5, Ill be happy to have him. Besides, if this is really his last year, wouldnt he rather go out a winner than on this debacle of a baseball team.

I'm pretty sure that everyone with 10 years of service time gets on the HOF ballot. Much worse players than Wood have gotten the 5% of the vote they need to stick around after the first year, too.

However, the general point still stands.
