Not surprising

Amid speculation that his job was in jeopardy, Edwin Rodriguez stepped down as Marlins manager on Sunday morning.

In a surprising move, the 50-year-old Rodriguez handed in his resignation, and it was accepted by Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest.

Apparently 80 year old Jack McKeon is a frontrunner to replace him. What's cool about that is that he claims that if he does manage again he'd wear a suit instead of the team uniform. The last manager to of course do that was Connie Mack. Be cool to see a dude in a suit stroll out to the mound to take a pitcher out.

It could be entirely an urban legend, but I've always heard that if a manager chooses to not wear a uniform, he can't go out on the field. He'd have to send a coach.

Well Connie Mack did that, but I don't think it's a rule

I am definitely rooting for Jack McKeon if that suit thing is true.

I think if he does that, that one NBA coach of his choosing should have to wear a basketball uniform next year.

I hope one of these old guys starts a suit trend. It's ridiculous for fat old men like Lou Piniella and Bobby Cox to walk around in a baseball uniform.

And wearing a suit to a ballpark is so normal.

Having em dress like football coaches would be fine, but this suit idea is equally ridiculous IMO. It'd be a novelty for about 10 minutes.

what do you want them to wear, jorts and a tank top?

A nice pair of Bum-like dress shorts wouldn't be too bad.

EDIT: With a pair of wingtips and no socks, of course.

You've never watched football, apparently.

so why is it fine for basketball and hockey coaches to wear suits but completely ridiculous for a baseball manager to wear a suit?

When did I say that

Off the top of my head, indoors vs. summer heat.

No kidding. Did you really not consider this, Truffle?

plenty of people wear suits in the summer. and if you ever saw gary williams sweat through his suit and shirt in about 5 minutes, you know it can be pretty hot indoors.

the other thing is that baseball managers go on the field while the other coaches don't, but really who cares if the manager is wearing a suit for his 30 second stroll out to the mound.

Probably the managers, since they're still outside in the dugout.

most games are in the evening, and there are games played in september, april and may. really there are three months of games in weather that's sometimes hot, assuming that you're playing outdoors and not on the west coast. like today's game time temperature was 73 degrees, i'm pretty sure quade could survive this one while wearing a suit.

i'm not saying that every manager should be required to wear a suit, but if they want to, who cares

I'm pretty sure this guy is either senile or wants to kill himself if he's going to be hanging around in a suit in the Florida humidity.
