when i lurk through these daily threads it seems like we have a handful of pretty decent prospects but that they are all kind of logically leveled out as fringe by scouts or reports via our conduits of scouts. beechler and kirk seem good. jackson could be real deal. i still hate vitters but there seems to be growing hope with him. this new kid from the dominican who has that 800 obp or whatever. sczczur. and i think there is a shortstop somewhere in there, too. mcnutt. so what, that's three starters, a couple outfielders, and a couple infielders? not too bad at all. i'd really hate to lose wilkin. he seems to be the watermark in the shift of talent. unless we can nab depodesta or something.

edit: brett, not jay.

Anyone have a scouting report on Kirk? His numbers in Peoria are off the charts. I'm trying to figure out why he is still there, and not in Daytona yet? I've heard great curveball, and his walk numbers indicate great control. Where does his fastball sit? Does he have a 3rd pitch?

Is Kirk this years McNutt?

The shortstop you speak of is likely Marwin Gonzalez. I could be wrong, but he seems like he'd end up as one of those defensive specialist shortstops that could either be in the bigs or minors depending on the team he's on and it's needs.

Saw tennessee play in carolina today, willing to answer questions on some guys, but i will quickly summarize.

Beeler - Good stuff, real good. Alot of movement, and was 90-93 was not hit hard. Secondary stuff needs work, but not bad. Threw alot of strikes. Base hits were grounders etc. Although he did give up a solo shot. Lead off walk of the opposing pitcher on 4 straight pitches hurt him, although it looked as though he was tired, as he was on base the hole previous inning.

Has a very very strong resemblance to Roy Halladay.

Belivaue? - Not much to say here. he should be able to help the big league club soon. numbers speak for themselves. 2 innings 5k's -90-93

Smit - A few unlucky base hits, and then a double off the wall.. Has good stuff, was Mid-90's

I am intrigued with Nelson Perez, showed good patience and pop off the bat. Not bad pitch recognition. Same with flores, waited for his pitch, did not look overmatched.

Marwin Gonzalez, will play in the big leagues, whether its for us, or someone else.. the guy is smooth..

Happy with what i saw from jackson.

Not a bad day, it was about 100 degrees though!

Oh, and i forgot.. Chapman was average. Bad mound demeanour. caught the ball barehanded when unhappy with the call. hit 100 on a couple of pitches, but overall not overly impressed with how he threw or acted

Will be at the game tomorow night, hopefully see the smokies win!

Surprising to hear that Perez looked patient at the plate. His numbers have never shown that, but maybe he's finally learning at the late age of 23.

Beliveau needs to be called up yesterday. Grabow or Beliveau, you decide.

Thanks for the report!

On Beliveau, he threw 16 pitches and they were all strikes. Retired the first 5 on strikeouts and then got the 6th batter on a first pitch fly out. Pretty impressive outing.

Is Kirk this years McNutt?

No. Primarily because Kirk was drafted in the 3rd round and has shown promise earlier in his professional career while McNutt was taken in the 32nd and kind of came out of nowhere. This year's McNutt was Robert Whitenack (8th rounder) until he blew out his elbow. Now it could be Dallas Beeler who was taken in the 41st round.

I think MIlb is messed up cause im sure i remember atleast one 3-2 count..

Beliveau last 10 games

0.00 ERA. 12.1 innings. 4 hits. 1 BB 15 K..

Yeah, he has a change which supposedly works well as a 3rd pitch. The question is FB velocity. Last year, he was 85-89...hopefully the velocity has spiked this year.

In no particular order, these are the guys that seem to me like they will at least be decent major leaguers someday...

Brett Jackson

Josh Vitters

Matt Szczur

Trey McNutt

DJ LeMaheiu

Ryan Flaherty

Jae-Hoon Ha

Jeffrey Beliveau

These guys could be major leaguers, but have more to show before truly receiving that grade...

Justin Bour

Austin Kirk

Dallas Beeler

Nick Struck

Robert Whitenack

Micah Gibbs

Kevin Rhoderick

Wellington Castillo

Steve Clevenger

And then there's a bunch with the potential, but are too far away...

Evan Crawford

Junior Lake

Kyung Min-Na

Arismendy Alcantara

Ben Wells

Reggie Golden

Austin Reed

Hayden Simpson

...and many more.

It's a deep system right now. But it is sorely lacking sure things and studs.

Who am I leaving out or over/under rating?

I'm still intrigued by Nelson Perez. Also, looking down the road, Zack Rosscup, Grahem Hicks, Rubi Silva, Juan Serrano, and Frank Batista all seem to have potential. Then there's Rebel Ridling and Matt Spencer who I can't decide if theyre legit slightly older prospects or the next generation of Micah Hoffpauir and Jake Fox.

A few more possiblities

Rebel Ridling

Ryan Searle

Chris Carpenter

Rafael Dolis

Matt Cerda

Marwin Gonzalez

I forgot about Dolis. Somewhere not too far down then road, him, Belivieu, Guzman, Marshall, Marmol, and maybe Carpenter could form a devastating bullpen. Also, I'm not quite ready to write off Jay Jackson just yet.

I also forgot Kurcz and Rhee.

I know he hasn't impressed in the last year and a half, but Logan Watkins recently has been on a tear. .919 OPS in his last 10 games. Would be helpful if he got on track and got that OBP back up.

I have been reading here often - and enjoying it. A lot of times I see projected dates of callups to the majors. Care to speculate on some of the top names above? Thanks in advance
