Rosscup had pitched very well at Daytona.

Anybody know what's wrong with him? Is he on a surgery injury, or something more modest?

Anybody know what Wallach's injury is? Ebenger stated today instead.

Poor Daytona has had their surprisingly terrific rotation totally killed. Whitenack promoted/injured, Rosscup injured, Struck promoted. Wallach wasn't very good, so not a big deal if he's hurt. But losing your four of your original five starters(Kurcz being the 5th) is tough.

Vitters played tonight.

Ben Badler tweeted that Carlos Penalver is opening some eyes down in the DSL.

Another good game for Cubs SS Carlos Penalver. Very promising July 2 signing out of Venezuela in 2010 #dsltweets

I'm assuming Penalver is on DSL2 because Francisco Sanchez is on DSL1, otherwise don't see why such a highly touted kid is down on the B-squad. That said, the B-squad seems to have some high priced talent to start, with Penalver, Candelario, and Antonio Gonzalez there.

Unless I'm mixing up which one is the B-squad?

Nope, you've got it right. Penalver is on DSL 2. He's yet to strike out. Has walked 5 times and is hitting over .300. Very small sample size, but he's off to a good start and apparently looks good to some scouts.

Penalver just turned 17 a couple of weeks ago. May 1994 birthday. 5 walks/0 K's hitting .333 thus far. 6-feet, so not a dinky guy.

I hear that Dallas Beeler has been promoted to Tennessee.

Surprising news if true. I really hope he does well, since this farm system needs all the good news it can get.

It's true, Beeler is now on Tennessee's roster. Wow.

I think there's enough talent that they might be spreading them out between the squads for playing time. Jeffery Baez, Francisco Sanchez, Alexander Santana, Angel Mejias and Gilberto Abreu are on DSL 1.

Of course they can switch the players between the DSL teams as they see fit during the season.

Ben Badler in BA from March:

In Latin America, the Cubs' top signing was Carlos Penalver, a Venezuelan shortstop from Maracay who signed for $550,000. A 16-year-old righthanded hitter, Penalver has an athletic 6-foot, 170-pound frame with good hands, body control and footwork. He's an above-average runner with good instincts and should stick at shortstop. Penalver's medium frame doesn't project for power, but he has good bat speed and the ability to control the barrel with a line-drive stroke.
