This screams of desperation.

You know what would they could've done to help attendance? Replaced the FO at the beginning to show fans they're cognizant of our complaints and not raised ticket prices to ridiculous levels after two straight losing seasons.

I don't even really see how the two are comparable. Why are we supposed to flip out if they sell cheaper beer in part of the stadium?

The Cubs' bread and butter when it comes to people spending money at the park for a while now has been partiers and casual fans and tourists that want to show up and hang out at Wrigley. This is a move to appeal to those demographics in a time when numbers are slumping across baseball, not just for the Cubs.

I understand why they're doing it. It's obviously an assumption, but perhaps installing a different FO from the get-go would've resulted in a better 2010 and a brighter 2011, making these promotions less necessary.

Probably not. It's not like the current FO had a bad offseason between 2010 and 2011, and it's highly unlikely that a new one would have put out a drastically different product than what we're seeing now. There really hasn't been an impressive FA class since the Ricketts took over, so unless you're forseeing a different FO that somehow worked magic and put out radically different teams than what we got last year and what we have so far this year I highly doubt the end results would have been much different.

And again, the numbers are way down across the board, even for the biggest teams. Given that the Ricketts just shelled out a ton of money for this team it's highly unlikely that you wouldn't still be seeing these promotions given the current economic climate of MLB. Again, I don't know, maybe you have an image of some mythical front office that somehow put together an amazing team that would negate all of this, but that doesn't seem terribly realistic.

I think some of you may exaggerating how bad this will be. Remember a couple things. First it is going to be on a Tuesday most out of towners will not be able to partake in this. So many of the people there will have to go to work in the morning (every remaining Tuesday game is a night game) so that may cut into the stupid people a little . Also specific places are selling the $3 beers in the bleachers. My guess is they may put the $3 beers down at the bottom so you have to make a good effort to get these and with limited vendors the lines will be long. Thus making ones ability to drink a ton of these less.

I kind of like the $1 dogs too on Wednesday. When beer is involved food always gets overlooked. :D

This all being said I hope this lasts until the Tuesday May 24th game as I will be there. I'm an out of towner so I am kind of going against my out of towner argument. But as a whole I think that argument still stands. Yes if the team was better and/or tickets were cheaper they would not need to do this but neither is the case. So they are doing what teams do in those situations. As a fan I'm not going to be to upset over having deals on food, beer and getting a free T-shirt.

As far as why only the bleachers? Well the Cubs want the bleachers full. It makes Wrigley look better when they are full. Someone once told be back in the 80's/90's WGN would try to only show the box seats and bleachers when televising the games. Fact is people in the bleachers drink more beer then those in the box seats.

Cheap beer = Bad situation waiting to happen

Cheap hot dogs = possibly contributing to American obesity, but awesome nonetheless

Doesn't help at all to disspell the idea that people just go to Wrigley to party, but as Nuts&Gum says, it is kind of true for the bleachers, so just targeting the demographics.

Oh and this: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/81431613/ She approves of this move.

I don't know why people think this is 10 cent beer night all over again.

Though with inflation, hey, maybe it is.

Well its not quite 10 cent beer, but its still going to encourage more consumption of beer to what can already be an obnoxious part of the stadium (even though I do enjoy sitting there)

Today's Groupon is 50% off Rooftop seats. You know sales are bad when rooftop owners are offering up seats at 50% off.

They've been doing this for as long as Groupon's been around.

Well then. I'll shut my mouth.
