Need to fix AVG... .787 SLG for 2nd place isn't good enough... hahaha

Yeah, that's just flat out AWESOME. I figured we would be seeing Brett in Sept. callup. Now it looks like to be June 1st or so.

another home run for jackson; he has a homer and double in this game. ben badler probably thinks he's the #1 prospect in baseball now, haha.

Brett Jackson just dropped the barrel on a fastball low and away, crushed a HR oppo to left field #Cubs

to play where? the cubs already have soriano, byrd, colvin, fukudome. obviously reed johnson can go away, but they can't just call up jackson and have him sit around.

i wouldn't be opposed to byrd going away.

Can't you just send Colvin down to AAA if he's still not hitting well? Doesn't he still have options? I mean are you really just gonna let Jackson stay down at AA/AAA all year if he's raking??

I'm all for trading Colvin if some GM wants to get a little overzealous and give up something decent. All of peripherals from last year just screamed regression and he's showing it so far, all be it in a very limited amount of at bats.

I would love to see Jackson with the big club but he has nowhere to play. Even if you send colvin down, do you then platoon byrd and fukudome? Or have a threeway platoon for center and right?

Soriano LF

Jackson CF

Byrd RF

Let Fukudome back up all 3 position and let him start 3 games a week (one for each position) or something like that... Fukudome would still get a lot of ABs this way and everyone would be well rested throughout the season. Plus it let Colvin start everyday at AAA to work on his swing and whatnot.

I really think that Bretts best chance of being called up before September is if The Cubs are out of it and Fukudomes traded. Theyd then likely go with the 3 way outfield platoon, something like Sori-Byrd/Brett-Colvin/Byrd. if Colvin continues to struggle, he could either be sent to Iowa or just made the 4th outfielder. We could trade Byrd, however, Colvin would really need to prove himself, because aside from Jackson, we really dont have any big league ready backup for starting right fielder.

If they were to bring him up, I think this would be the smartest way to go, but he's only had 47 ABs. I agree he is absolutely, lights-out raking right now, but let the guy have 100 ABs at least before promoting him. That's about what Castro had last year in AA before being brought up.

Castro was somewhat of a desperation move when we were really struggling for offense. While Byrd and Fukudome havnt been steller, they havnt been problems either.

Yeah, I said instead of a Sept. callup, it'll be more like June 1st if hes still raking. Jackson will have quite a bit of ABs (not sure how many exactly) by then. I didn't say promote him now or even very soon.

BUT if he's hitting like .340/.460/.570 (could be better than that possibly) at the end of May, then I would have to think you would call him up in June. This would also give enough time for Colvin to "bounce back" if he can... If not, send him to AAA. If he does start hitting again, then Byrd or Fukudome probably would have to be traded or Reed Johnson is gone and Colvin is the 5th OF/backup 1B...

I would like to see them find a suitor for Fukudome and platoon Byrd and Colvin in RF. Give Byrd the majority of the AB's, and let Colvin back up the 3 OF spots. They could let Byrd fill in some at CF and have Sori/Byrd/Colvin but the majority of the starts would be Sori/BJax/Byrd.

Looks like a good outfield and would def bolster the batting order. Is it assumed BJax would lead off? Jackson, Barney, Castro, and ARam is a good 1st 4.

Brett Jackson, OF, Cubs (Double-A Tennessee Smokies): 2-for-4, 2B, HR (3), 2 R, RBI, K

Yesterday's minor league update featured Jackson, and the commenters were rife with speculation about when he'd reach Wrigley, with predictions ranging from June to September, or even predicting trades to open up a spot. Now batting .426/.541/.787 in 14 games, Jackson has created plenty of reason for excitement, but it was surprising to see him back at Double-A to start the year after he seemingly solved this level during the second half of 2010. With power, speed and arm strength that all rate as average to a tick above, a more patient approach and smoother swing is leading to results, and while none of us know when he's getting to Wrigley, we can be a little more confident that he'll be good once it happens.

Michael Burgess, OF, Cubs (High-A Daytona): 2-for-4, 2B, HR (6), R, 3 RBI, K. Showing massive power in the Florida State League, but also hitting .250 with strikeouts in nearly 30% of his at-bats. In other words, same ol' Burgess.
