The Chicago Cubs want to stage weekend festivals on Sheffield Avenue during three popular series this summer, a team official said Monday.

The idea is to close Sheffield from Addison Street to Waveland Avenue on the east side of Wrigley Field for most of the day from Friday through Sunday on three weekends in June, July and August when the Cubs face the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, said Wally Hayward, chief of sales and marketing for the club.

I thought it was kind of a cool idea when they did it for NU alums before the football game, but that one block isn't going to hold many people. Why not extend it down to Clark on Waveland?

I liked it for NU too. I think they'd be better off closing down the area where the triangle building is supposed to go, but I realize that's impossible with the players and staff parking lot being there, as well as TV trucks, etc. I would just think it would seem more festive in the front of the park rather than the back. Cool idea though, I've always liked how the Red Sox set up Yawkey Way whenever I've been to Fenway.

Sounds like that street behind fenway that is always closed during games. At least I think its always...both times I was there it was Yankees - Red Sox.

Bleacher traffic could be a problem

You'd think they would divert the bleacher line exclusively down Waveland on these days.

Right. So they'd have to keep one of either Sheff or Waveland open, is my point

They need to keep Waveland specifically open because of the firehouse.

Well I'll just shut up then.
