Assuming that proves accurate, he'll be the first Cubs pitcher to wear no. 17 since Dave LaRoche in 1974.

That's not a good omen. I remember Dave LaRoche.

I remember him too. He had several good years both before and after his time with the Cubs, but he sucked during his two years as a Cub.

Hopefully after Garza retires they retire the #, but only for Garza.

 

i can't come up with too many alternate universes that lead to this end which don't involve both garza winning multiple world series games and gracie either doing something extremely personally embarrassing or completely distancing himself from the cubs forever.

 

so, uh, yeah i think i'm with you on this one. let's do that.
