Yes, that Ryan Harvey:

Red Sox signed RHP Ryan Harvey to a minor league contract.

Harvey was a first-round draft pick of the Cubs back in 2003 and spent the first six years of his professional career in the outfield. He always had a strong throwing arm and has turned himself recently into a reliever. It remains to be seen if the conversion will work.

Ryan [expletive] Harvey now that's a blast from the past. Who next, Brian Dopirak?

Edit: Oooo...or maybe Nic Jackson will be making a comeback.

Dopirak signed a MiLB deal with the Astros yesterday.

Dopirak was actually starting to put together a nice little comeback when he joined the Blue Jays. He struggled this past year, but in 08 and 09 his numbers were great (though playing at low levels most of the time probably helped him out).

2008: .304/.368/.550/.919 29HR 101RBI

2009: .317/.371/.549/.921 27HR 102RBI

Harvey. There's a name. Haha, he's trying the reliever route now? Good luck.

Harvey was a highly touted two way player going into the 03 draft. Many teams liked his arm alot better than his bat. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually makes something of himself now. Nonetheless, this is yet another case of a kid who should have gone to college to learn a little discipline.

There's no telling what might've happened to Harvey had he gone to college.

He very well could've been exposed there, instead of in the minors. That would have cost him millions.

Go ahead and add Rich Hill to the former-Cub-turned-org-filler for the Red Sox list. Still though, every time I see his 2007 stat line it makes me pause and wonder if they didn't wreck his mental stability by bailing on that beautiful curve after 19 bad innings in '08.

Maybe then he would have started pitching 4 years ago when it would have mattered.
