He is due 48 mil over the next 3 years. Please do not do this... unless of course they will take Soriano (they need a DH) and we can even things out. That would open up LF and get us out of the contract a year earlier.

I know there's a new rumor about him and the Rockies, but...

According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Rangers officials have "debunked" the rumor that they are trying to trade Michael Young.

Even if they were shopping him, it's hard to see him drawing much interest. Young is 34 years old and is owed $16 million in each of the next three seasons. They'd likely have to swap him for a similar contract or eat a large portion of his salary in any deal.

[expletive] forgot about that.

If something could happen I would assume move Young to 2B, keep at the 1B targets.

Fukudome RF

Castro SS

Ramirez 3B

Pena???? 1B

Soto C

Young 2B

Byrd CF

Colvin LF

And Soriano is paid $18 million to do what?

The Rangers are still talking with teams about Michael Young, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FoxSports.com.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported earlier that the Rangers told Young that he would not be traded, but it seems obvious they'd rather not be saddled with the $48 million remaining on Young's contract. Texas reportedly is interested in Adrian Beltre and would need to shed Young in order to make that signing happen. The Rockies, Angels and Cubs are rumored to have varying levels of interest. Colorado has been most talked about and Morosi reports that Rockies outfield prospect Charlie Blackmon has been discussed between the teams.

I'm okay with us having some interest. He may well be an upgrade over our 2B situation if they're just giving him away.

But if it would require us giving up any prospects of note or paying any of his contract, pass.

If only Hendry could convince the Rangers to take Alfonso back. The Cubs could use Youngs bat at second.

Michael Young likely isn't going to be a better hitter than Alfonso Soriano in 2011.

Nor will we be likely to swap bad contracts and get the money off the books earlier. If by some miracle Hendry can swing this, go for it, but I'm very doubtful.

No, but hypothetically the combination of Young/Colvin is probably better than Soriano/DeWitt.

And the Rangers could actually use Soriano as a DH, since they're (understandably) wary about resigning Vladdy to a big deal and hoping he recreates another year like last year.
