The Nationals will offer Lee a seven-year deal, tweets Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News.

Comment From Mike Mike : ] Keith, can you comment on Buster's tweet about the Nats throwing "HUGE" dollars at Lee? What is huge? 8yrs/200 mill? As a DC resident this has gotten very exciting. Tuesday December 7, 2010 10:37 Mike

You'd have to ask Buster for specific numbers but it sounds like seven years would be the top offer right now. Look for a number of additional "Washington had to overpay" stories if that happens.

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Earlier today, there was some buzz that the Washington Nationals would make a "huge" move to sign top free-agent pitcher Cliff Lee. There were reports that they would be wiling to give Lee a seven-year contract. But as of right now, it looks like those reports were unfounded.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post talked to two Nationals sources who vehemently shot down the reports that Lee would get a seven-year contract.

Are the Nationals getting TARP money from congress?

In a roundabout way. Washington is where the money is at nowadays. Lots of cash flowing for things like luxury boxes to be picked up by lobbyists, law firms and contractors.

Didn't you hear that the Republicans and Tea Partiers are cutting back on everything in Washington. That's how they got elected.

^ is there a reason you want to hurt my eyes?

i doubt the nats are considering this seriously. they may offer 6 yrs 120 or something, but not a ridiculous 7/160 or something.

Old joke, anything in lime green is sarcasm.

i guess they want to get rid of blanton and ibanez, but they'd have to eat money to get rid of those two. and i'd imagine that any offer would have to be heavily back-loaded since they have almost $150 million committed for next season.

Phils going for four years, 90 mil (or three). Leaving 70 mil on the table is what I've read for their offer. So that's a 90 or so mil contract. Can't be more than four years, can't be less than three. Either way, it's a great deal for the Phillies.

If he signs with Philly he'll be young enough to cash in again in FA on maybe a 2 or 3 year deal before he retires.

If Lee would sign with Philly, I could be the #5 starter in that rotation and they'd still win the pennant going away.

That might possibly be the best rotation in the modern baseball era.

That pleasant screeching sound you hear from out east is the sound of countless ***hole Yankees fans hurling epithets at Cliff Lee for "not being man enough to sign with the Yankees."

Ah, sweet music.

I challenge anybody to name a better one.
