They just said on the Score that Webbs agent is holding out for 7.5 million a year. Looks like it's gonna come down to who offers him the most. Advantage Rangers. I no longer hope to sign him but will be happy if he does.

Any team would be crazy to give Webb that. I don't think the guy deserves more than 1 mil plus incentives.

Muskat's blog seems to imply that the Cubs are not encouraged by Webb's medical records and will only sign him if he takes a Kerry Wood type deal.

Spring training auditions for the spot looks a lot more appealing now.

I can understand why they would ask for that though. Sheets got 10 million last year in a somewhat similar situation.

And if he returns to his pre-injury form, he'll be worth well more than the $7.5 he'd be making.

That's a big if. Especially if the Cubs aren't encouraged by his med records.

I have not followed the A's much but does anyone wonder why there has been little to zero interest in Duchscherer?

I've wondered that myself and I can only imagine it has to deal with his health. He may not be fully recovered yet.

Don't know if this has already been reported, but the Score says he's probably going to make his decision today.

And now reports are saying he's NOT making a decision today. It's [expletive] Brett Favre all over again

According to Levine, Webb is a fallback option from Garza or other starters that could potentially be traded for. FWIW, he says that Cleveland is wanting teams top 2 prospects for Carmona.

Just waking up and taking all of this new non-information in on Mr. Webb and others. Blah, I am nervous now if we don't just sign Webb. I really don't want Hendry to give up some choice cuts for a starter in a trade.

Yeah, pass on that.

I want Webb, as he's a lottery ticket at this point, but not if the price is too high. But, as others have said, I fear the fallback and overpayment if we lose out on Webb.

Why trade pieces for a starter? Our rotation would be ok until midseason without a starter. But could certainly benefit from an ace type starter in the rotation (whose wouldnt?). So adding someone like Webb seems like a logical fit. But I don't look at the medical reports and I have no idea how serious they are about 7.5 mil

Wasn't the report a week ago that Webb was the Cubs top target? Now it's opposite?

I'm not sure, but I thought it was just us speculating on that being the case, especially if it appears we'd have to give up a ton for Garza.

Also, Levine mentioned that Tampa would insist on Hak Ju Lee being in the package and Chirinos as well. He also said that he didn't think Garza or Webb was an either/or situation, but didn't go into that further.

Not to mention Tampa execs have said that they're not planning on trading him and fully anticipate him being in the starting rotation for them in 2011

Yeah, but I think that's probably just a ploy to get more for him. They've got Price/Shields/Niemann/Davis/Garza right now and they've got to open up a spot for Hellickson somewhere. I'd probably move Davis to closer personally, but don't know what they're trying to do.

There's a blurb on rotoworld saying Webb prefers to play in Texas and will take an incentive laden deal to reestablish his value. He's supposedly going to speak with Ron Washington and Mike Maddux this evening.
