For all... one... two... three... four... four of you still following, they're in a rain delay at the moment. The latest edition of Rain Delay Theater has Mike Krukow telling the "Hey 40, what's yer name, man?" story for what I estimate is the hundredth time or so.

EDIT: Projected start time of 7:55 CT

for lack of a better place and not needing to start a new topic, I have a question. What is the point of putting Soto & Colvin on the 15 Day DL at this point (Both were today) and why DFA Atkins now? Since Tennesee's season is over are we going to see more call ups?

Quade goes back to the veteran line-up and they get 2 whole hits. Comical.

Runners on first and second with one out in the 5th or 6th and Marlon Byrd swings at the first two pitches, both fastballs above the letters. He then hits into a 5-4-3 double play. I don't care to look up his stats as the third hitter, but in the games I've seen, he's been about the most unproductive 3 hitter I've seen. I hope Hendry sells high on him this winter. The chances of him being as good as he's been this year are not good.

Fantastically terrible analysis there, fella.

For one, you seem to think that the team lost because the "veteran lineup" was out there, and not that it had anything to do with facing one of the best pitching teams in baseball. I'm sorry, are you under the impression that only rookies played during the win streak.

Secondly, yes, Byrd has been awful as a #3 hitter...but you want to trade him because of that? I wouldn't mind selling high if the right deal could be had, but the Cubs don't have anyone available right now who can take over as a starting OF without the team facing too severe a drop in defense and/or offense, and what money they have is better served going after Dunn and pitching. Byrd won't be the #3 hitter next year, so who cares if he stinks as #3 hitter this year?

If they were planning to call up any players not currently on the 40-man roster it would make sense to place Colvin and Soto on the 60-day DL rather than 15. I can't see any reason to put somebody on the 15-day list since that doesn't impact the 40-man roster and the 25-man is no longer in effect.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think he made the comment about a veteran lineup not scoring because we had a lineup on Sunday for of AAAers that many people assumed wouldn't score at all, and they scored 9 runs, then we run the regular 'veteran' lineup out there and they get shutout. I don't think he's saying 'dont play the veteran lineup', I think he was just making a humorous observation.

Obviously the biggest difference is that Andrew Miller started on Sunday and Matt Cain started last night.

Nah, this guy's track record is to show up here and complain in the most meatheaded, Kaplan-esque way possible, so I guarantee that in his head the win streak was the result of "the kids."
