Whitenack finishes with a 2.04 ERA in 39.2 innings at Daytona.

I'm very interested to hear new reports on Whitenack. Seems like the knuckle-curve (I think) that was talked about pre-draft was never as good as anticipated, but curious how his other pitches currently look. I have to admit, I had him close to written off as someone of interest early in the year, but he's really put together a solid 2nd half.

I agree. I would love to hear some scouting reports on him. However, I'd call his 3-1, 2.04 second half something a little bit more hyperbolic than solid. :-)

I wonder if they intended to limit his innings today so he'd be ready to pitch earlier in the playoffs. It certainly wasn't because of performance; he did well while in the game (0 runs, 1 hit, 2 K, 2 BB, 1 WP, 3-0 GB/FO).

The 1.9 GO-FO is nice too.

Hope Archer isn't hurt.

Another thought: Maybe they pulled him so they can call him up tomorrow after the pounding the bullpen took today.

Id like to think that they wouldnt consider throwing their top pitching prospect into middle relief on a big league club with 0 playoff chance, but I never underestimate the stupidity of this organization anymore.

their playoff series starts on thursday against west tennessee and archer has been their best starter, so he's probably going in game one. relax everybody.

Yep.

From BA's Conor Glassey's Twitter feed:

Archer out after 2 innings (planned) since he's starting first game of the playoffs

#Cubs Double-A RHP Chris Archer looking great in 1st inning tonight. 92-96 mph FB with unfair 87-89 SL

Oh look, Ryno ejected again.

Heard on the radio that he was named PCL manager of the year! Maybe he will go Andre Dawson on us and agree to manage the club for a blank check.

You mean for a second time this year?

When they did it with Cashner they were still pretending that they were in contention. I don't think they're still under that delusion.

I'm not so sure that makes it any better. Anyone who thought this team was in contention at the time we called up Cashner should have their heads checked.

I didn't mean that it was any better (Cashner should have been starting for Iowa), just that their delusional thinking may have changed.

No I know what you meant. Just a frustrating year, sadly I don't have much more hope for next year either.
