With last night's 1-0 loss, the Cubs now have 30 one-run losses on the season. Will they challenge the all-time record, which is 44 by the 1968 White Sox? At this rate, I'd say there's a non-zero chance.

Well based on their pace (30 one run losses in 120 games), they are on pace for 40.5 one run losses. Rounded up to 41 that's 3rd all time and very respectable.

The sting would be less if the scores were 8-7 or 6-5, but we have had too many 1-0 or 2-1 games. At least with a higher score all we can say is , " man, if we could just get one more decent arm for the BP our offense will carry us." We can't say that

Do we REALLY want Hendry going into the off-season thinking, "We need to spend more on the bullpen!"?

With the amount of one run losses, I would have expected the deviation between the Cubs actual record and their Pythagorean "expected" won-loss record to be more than three games. Still, that's second worse in the Majors (behind the Cardinals, of all teams).

and lefties?

and speed?

and a leadoff hitter?

That's what Hendry does.

Len also said that last night. The last one was also against the Padres. It was the game where Derrek Lee fought Chris Young.
