Kind of weird to go through this circuitous path to make yourself draft eligible, only to go play independent ball or whatever for a year.

Strasburg didn't sign until the last minute last year. I bet Harper gets signed.

Oh how ironic that Strasburg is acting holier than thou towards Harper when he himself held out until the last minute.

Agreed. Hypocrite can take as long he wants to get his money, but when someone else does it he questions publicly whether that person wants to be there.

10 minutes left and I haven't seen anything yet. Suppose there might be an extension?

Mark Zuckerman says he's signed.

Harper got a big-league deal from #Nats. Still waiting on numbers.

Bryce Harper has signed with the #Nats: http://bit.ly/cTJt7o

EDIT: 5 years, $9.9 million

so you don't actually have to "sign" anything before midnight? Just agree verbally and then what?

"But both sides were willing to relent on some terms in that final, frantic minute, and Rizzo and Boras verbally agreed on the contract before midnight."

Basically yeah.

There's a verbal agreement, and the the team faxes something to the MLB office. The fax is what has to be sent.

Three years ago we had the whole [expletive] w/ Boras saying Alvarez Agreed after midnight. It lead to a whole long drawn out pissing match.

I learned more about the process than I ever cared to know through this whole process.

That is funny, though I will cut him a little bit of slack for liking UT. If he shows up to a Redskins game wearing a Cowboys jersey that would be funny as hell.

Part of me thinks he was just [expletive] with the interviewer. Nobody can truly love that many evil teams...can they?

I know people who come pretty close to it, so yeah, somebody who from every indication is a completely self absorbed douchebag probably could be like that.

Im not sure which of those answers is the worst (basically, I am a front-runner and have no team loyalty) but saying your favorite energy company is BP and your favorite president is Nixon surely will not make you many friends...

Gotta quote this before he realizes his mistake.

And he's not a douche?

the implication was that everyone knows he's a world-class douche and he's a frontrunner, so i was agreeing with you BUT LET'S GET IN A FIGHT ANYWAY

I apologize for not understanding your implication.
