This isn't a bad deal for either team. The Rangers overpaid a bit probably - considering they almost certainly won't re-sign Lee - but they got a terrific pitcher who gives the fan base a real reason for excitement (more ticket sales).

On the other hand, the Mariners got a player who has the ability to man first base for 8-10 years at a very productive level. Seattle got the better end of the deal, but I don't think it was all that bad for Texas either.

With that offense, and a top of the rotation of Lee, Harden if/when healthy, and rookie Tommy Hunter, the Rsngers couold be a very difficult team to bet in the post season. Molina and Lee are some damn good pickups for a team that supposedly couldnt make any big ones due to financial issues.

good for Texas. I admire a team going for it when they things are going their way (for once)

Agreed. They gave up a good prospect, but they're going for it this year. Lee gives them a legitimate shot at winning the World Series. Good for them.

I doubt it considering they'll be playing the Yankees in the first round who will trot out Sabathia, Hughes, Pettitte to counter those three.

Texas has the second best record among division leaders right now which means they would be playing the wild card winner in the first round - the Rays right now. Detroit would play the Yankees if the regular season ended today.

Dontforget that Colby Lewis is a legit #2.

Josh Lueke, a minor-league pitcher acquired by the Mariners, faced rape and sodomy charges last summer

Josh Lueke, one of four players sent to Seattle in the Cliff Lee trade, faced rape and sodomy charges last summer in Bakersfield, Calif. He pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of false imprisonment with violence, and was sentenced to 40 days in jail.

Interesting subplot

I had to look at that like 5 times to realize it didn't say "face raped and sodomized". I need to sleep.

This is a great trade for the Rangers. They are going for it. What more can you ask of a management team that has done a phenomenal job of acquiring prospects? They spent some of their many chips to get a legit ace. They kept Scheppers and Perez. Smoak projects better than Davis, but neither were going to be relied upon with the sick lineup that they have this season.

As a Gamecock, I'll miss Smoak, but as a Rangers fan, this trade was a no-brainer.

Harden has been pretty brutal this year when he was healthy enough to pitch.
