Chris Archer is mowing down Lakeland through 4. Casey Coleman had a solid game, CG, 7 ip, 2 h, 1 r, 8 K's, and a 7:4 GO/FO ratio.

Only 2 hits he surrendered were the first 2 batters he faced.

I will not let myself get excited over Jeff Samardzija's minor league performance...

It's not like he's got great peripherals, he was pretty lucky to have that ERA entering today.

are you suggesting that 17 walks in 25 innings is not that good?

He's sucked out of the pen, but his two outings as a starter have been halfway decent so far. I know, small sample size and all that, but it seems like the only success he's had in his career has been in a starting role.

Which makes sense. A starter has at least a decent chance of not letting the walks kill him but they are death to relievers unless they have marmolesque stuff. Dempster is a good example of a high walk, not always effective reliever turned into a good SP. It might also be that Smardj doesn't try to amp up his fastball as a starter and as a result has better control.

I can't wait for next year when he's in our rotation and Cashner is still our all-important right handed setup man.
