A player's ceiling has nothing to do with ROY either, unless they reach it during their 1st season. Didn't Jerome Walton win ROY?

I might be remembering it wrong, but I think that the year Walton won the ROY Dwight Smith was 2nd and Rolando Roomes was thrid. All 3 came from the Cubs farm system. Roomes was traded to the Reds for Lloyd McClendon before that year but was originaly signed by the Cubs

Roomes was a rookie that year, but got no votes. Gregg Jeffries finished 3rd. I wouldn't be surprised if Roomes was talked about as a potential ROTY, he had a pretty batting average most of the year before tanking in September.

It been long enough ago that I'm not surprised that I remembered it wrong. I was pretty young and remember thinking that the Cubs must have had a great farm system lol.

If it helps, I clearly just looked all that up on BR, and only knew Roomes because of Earl Weaver Baseball 2(With the '89 stats pack!)

ETA: Holy [expletive] was Les Lancaster unbelievable in that game.

Bumping this as I think Castro is now leading for this, at least in relation to JHey.

What ^^^^ said. Posey is ridonkulous

what's really scary is that tampa had the #1 overall pick the year that posey was drafted and went for tim beckham instead. imagine tampa with posey instead of john jaso or whoever is DH'ing right now? yikes that team would be good and beautifully positioned for years to come.

I saw that, but it just seemed like a really weird sentence. I didn't know if you were trying to say "Castro is leading the race" or "Castro is in second place."

How is that unclear? It means he's ahead of Heyward. I take issue with "JHey" because that's dumb, but in a thread titled "Castro vs. Heyward", this was a solvable mystery.

Sorry, got a brother in ATL who is a Braves fan, I'm used to how he describes him in emails. Besides, with the amount of DLee's and ARam's around here, figured it was acceptable.
