Well, at the beginning of this process, I would've considered the worst case scenario giving a max contract (or even worse, sign and trade for a worse max contract) to Joe Johnson, so at least that's not happening. Sure, he's a good shooter, and he'd probably be valuable as such for at least a year more, but the years of a max contract were what concerned me.

If it ends up being just Boozer + some guards who can actually shoot (Redick/Morrow/Allen), they wouldn't be a favorite in the East but they could very well be a contender. Still disappointing, but not the disaster it'd be if Miami/NJ/NY didn't end up with anybody big.

Rose isn't a fool. I don't know where this report came from, but I don't trust it for a second.

I don't doubt it for a second. Why would a point guard whose game is based on driving to the basket want to give up that to have the offense run through someone else? LeBron and Rose are not a good fit.

Becuase it's bad news for the Bulls, that's why it's not trustworthy. Haven't you been paying attention the last 90 pages or so?

Yeah, we should totally believe the opinion of a Cavs beat reporter. He, unlike us, is completely unbiased. He doesn't want all the work that goes along with covering a Lebron James anyway.

ESPN.com got some notes from the Nets owner Prokhorov's meeting with executives last week...

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=5357254

On the conference call, he categorized the options he believes James has before him: The "hometown angle" of remaining with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The choice to play with Wade and Bosh in Miami, where James would have a "very high chance to win two or three titles" but where he could also "diminish the LeBron brand."

Joining the Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers or New York Knicks. These options, according to Prokhorov, are similar from a basketball standpoint and he believes none of the three clubs have a clear-cut strategy for winning championships.

Becoming a member of the Nets, who would give James the best opportunity to build a dynasty, become a champion and emerge as a global icon. To assure James of winning, Prokhorov said the Nets would pursue a trade for Chris Paul. He admits it could "take a year for the young roster to grow" but that after adding the right pieces around James, the Nets could win the NBA title two years from now. Prokhorov also believes James would benefit greatly on a global scale because of the synergy he'd have with Prokhorov and Nets minority owner Jay-Z, and that his brand would experience global expansion from Day 1.

regarding Wade and Bosh, Prokhorov told his inner circle he has no doubt that both will sign with Miami.

If the Bulls don't get any of the big 3, best case scenario is they only end up signing Lee or Boozer this year (I mean in terms of big contracts), LBJ stays in Cleveland and Wade/Bosh in Miami. There's no obvious dominant team and the Bulls can sign a big FA next year (can't Durant opt out if he doesn't sign an extension this year?). Obviously getting Wade or James would be the best result, but at least if it turns out like this, no team is going to dominant the league for the next 5 years.

At least one can make the (somewhat shaky) assumption that the reporter's story is based on something tangible other than fandom.

There's so much bad reporting out there, it's hard to sort the bad from the good at this point. I don't know why a Cavs beat reporter would have more information on Derrick Rose's "preferences" than any Chicago writer.

Ultimately though, it doesn't matter what Rose wants or thinks.

Well Flames isn't a Chicago writer.

man, pretty much all the "reports" out there have us missing out. i know it doesn't mean a lot, but it's pretty concerning that pretty much everybody now has lebron most likely going back to cleveland and wade going back to miami.

if lebron played in chicago, people would all be freaking the [expletive] out because he's not announcing where he's going during his camp. there's a lot to read into there and no one is really mentioning it. that goes for wade, too.

yeah, but i dont know. it's concerning that a week ago the bulls were involved in all the rumors,a dn now they're involved in none.

hopefully it's the calm before the strom, but i'm not confident. i feel like we're head to carlos boozer or david lee and ultimately, nba hell.

at least we'll win like 50 games and maybe a playoff series next year... right?

If Rose keeps improving, which he should, we won't be headed to NBA hell.

My fearless prediction is one of the Lebron/Wade and Boozer...

Us not getting any of these superstars again is karma for how we treated Jordan and Pippen after '98.

Those 30 million 1 year deals at the end of his career were awful for Jordan.

It depends what you consider hell. Getting knock off in the playoffs every year is hell.

People should be realistic about Rose's ceiling. If the Bulls whiff in free agency, Rose would need to grow into a LeBron/Wade/Durant type of player to get the Bulls to a championship level. I don't think that's going to happen. He's going to be a really good player, but probably not at the level of those guys.

What? I'm saying it's somewhat shaky to assume the reporter's story is based on reliable information. Flames is saying that can't possibly be true, Derrick Rose is a genius

This has always been the most likely scenario and I'm not sure why anyone thought otherwise.

Paxson did his job. He put us in position to be players in the sweepstakes. Unfortunately, the deck has always been stacked due to the Bird Rule and Chris Bosh's desire to team up with one of Wade or LeBron.

Get ready for Boozer and Carmelo rumors, people.

yeah, no, that's not what he said. he said he doubts the report is accurate ("rose isn't a fool" isn't the same as "Rose is a genius"). you say you doubt the reporter has reliable information. that's not similar?

speaking of if this were happening in chicago: i get the idea that if lebron left town, chicagoans would blow the city up, there would be liquor store structure-fires everywhere, aks in the streets, maybe a hydrogen bomb on his way out of town.

if he leaves cleveland, i think those fans will just cease to be, like marty mcfly if his dad never punched out biff and scored with his mom. there is a quiet, panicked desperation in these people, they somehow don't know how to act in these situations. they're going to put down their heads and disappear or turn to dust and be taken away by light breeze without so much as yip, just close your eyes and think of the wonders of the universe.

lol...the heads will just start disappearing from the 2009 Cavs team picture?

When asked about LeBron and Bosh a week ago, Rose said, "They would be fools not to come here."

I'll trust that over anything a Cavs source has to say about our situation.
