As of right now, the Bulls cannot sign two max contract players. But whats to stop someone like Chris Bosh from signing a one year deal for less, and then resigning with the Bulls for a max 6 year contract the next year? Any money he would lose on that first year deal would theoretically be made up in the next deal and more with the extra year. This would be legal, since you can go over the cap if you are signing your players, right? Just thinking out loud, since this is pretty much all Ill be thinking about this week.

Or maybe even a 10 day contract, and then on July 18th, he can resign for a max deal.

I could be wrong but didn't they mention during the draft if Miami traded Beasley they could afford 3 max deals?

I don't know from what I've read it's pretty close as to whether they can do it.

Also, I think it's funny how they are like "no Miami can sign 3 max players. Chicago can only sign 2." Yeah but one of the players is their own player Dwyane Wade.

bird rights don't transfer until after year 3, pretty much so stuff like this doesn't happen.

Darn foiled again. Oh and I guess the OP was foiled too. Apparently someone already thought of that before the last CBA.

this article alone means nothing, but it's starting to get concerning to see multiple reports that the heat might get wade, bosh, AND lebron. holy hell that would suck on so many levels.

And the last couple of days the hot rumor of the days were James and Bosh (and perhaps Johnson) to Chicago. So it's just a scenerion, one that is possible, but IMO, not very likely.

Yeah, they're basically assuming that story to be true in LA and fretting about how the Lakers would match up with a Heat dream team.

how would that even work though? 3 players like that? it could be amazing, but it could also be a disaster.

plus, what would they have outside of that? they'd have absolutely no depth whatsoever. who would their 4th best player be?

Collins and I don't know after that.

I'm pretty resigned to the fact the Bulls will whiff and get someone like David Lee.

i've been saying for a while that it's gonna suck hard when we get joe johnson and david lee

but at least we'll win 50 games and maybe a playoff series, or something

If the Bulls don't get someone big (LeBron, Bosh, etc.) I don't know how I can watch them with no knowledge that they'll sniff a title for a while (unless they sign Carmelo next year).

My renewed interest in the Bulls comes from an expectation that they'll actually get a marquee player or two. I'd like to stay interested.

6 months ago that would've been considered fairly successful. So at least the pessimistic scenario is still pretty decent.

That's better than a 50 win team too. 2nd or 3rd best in the East on paper if everything else held.

A few things:

1) There is no way with Michael Beasley on the roster that the Heat can afford Bosh, Wade and LeBron. And it's not even close. It's like $6 million off. Good luck getting two of those 3 guys to take $3 million less than max to join this super team that will effect all their stats during the prime of their careers.

2) Good luck getting a team to take on Michael Beasley knowing that doing so will open the gates for a potential super dynasty to rule the league for several years. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it would have to make a ton of basketball sense for a team to ok that deal. Don't think the rest of the league knows this and won't do anything to prevent it from happening.

3) If Wade is so confident about getting James and Bosh, why is he taking meetings with other teams like the Bulls?

I mean I won't not watch them. I always watch the Bulls, but I'd be pretty down knowing that the next few years are going to be dominated by one super team. Similar feeling when the Celtics got together but at least then I knew it would only be a couple year run and the Bulls weren't really in a position to compete for a title.

Your second point could just as easily be applied to the theory that the Bulls can move Deng to fit two max guys.

As for Wade taking meetings, well he's just covering his bases and probably wants to feel courted. I don't expect him to do anything but reup with Miami. Even Duncan took meetings when he was a FA and he was coming off a championship.

If the Miami super team happens I don't know if I could watch the Bulls anymore (and I do enjoy watching them even when they suck) because there really wouldn't be any point. No body would beat that team.

LeBron isn't going to the Heat. Not a chance.

Agreed. Bosh is ok with being Wade's lapdog, but Lebron he has a Global Icon image to retain, and how can he keep that image up if he runs 2nd fiddle on the Heat? Or how do you tell Wade to become 2nd fiddle of his OWN team, the one he help win a championship in the nt so distance past? Neither will take a backseat to the other. I don't care how hard Riley sells it, James simply won't buy it.

GarPax knows it is very important to blow James' mind. Everybody knows the Bulls have James' attention, moreso then any other team, it will be up to GarPax to "seal the deal." I mean if Paxson and JR was thisclose of selling Chicago to LA8, then I am pretty confident they can sell Chicago James, not that James needs to be sold Chicago, cause I think he is already sold. I think James is wondering will the Bulls stop trying to make the team better once James and another FA sign there? Will they pay out for guys like Rose and Noah? I'm nt a JR fan, but he has said he would pay if he KNEW his team would be a championship contender. But those are the type of questions James wants answered on Thursday.

If they can satisfy his curiosity, then James is ours.

Well if the Bulls do deliver Lebron and Bosh it's kind of amazing how many things would've gone right for them leading up to it.

1) 1.7% to get Rose

2) Noah getting his head on straight

3) Getting rid of Noc's terrible contract for Miller's big expiring and Salmons

4) Not resigning BG

5) Getting rid of Salmons at the dead line

6) Having Lebron lose in the playoffs to a big underdog, especially before the Finals

7) Getting rid of Kirk's terrible contract for nothing but cap space

And then you have little things like New Jersey losing the lottery.

There's still some land mines to avoid, for sure, and you can't discount the possibility of something materializing out of nowhere (a Chris Paul trade, Dallas getting involved somehow)

broussard also starting to pimp the lebron/miami possiblity in his twitter

CHI-MIAMI emerging as frontrunners for LJ. CLE not dead, but...
