there have been about 15 scoring chances in the first 5 minutes of OT... bruins basically spent the first 2 minutes peppering boucher and then the flyers had an odd man rush, a breakaway and a point shot off the post.

the flyers really didn't play poorly. the bruins aren't going to score 5 goals a game. they were outplayed for sure (esp. in OT), but they can still win this series.

Wow, what will Pavelski do next? He's been an absolute stud.

Pavel Datsyuk is one of my favorite players in the league to watch on both ends.

Heatley gets blatantly shoved into Howard so of course it's a penalty on the Sharks.

did you watch the game? I dont feel the least bit bad for that

pretty bad reffing at both ends tonight. bad break for lidstrom on thornton's game winner (wait...wut).

the heatley goal interference was a bad call, but both goalie interferences on teh Wings were bad calls, the penalty on Bertuzzi while the Wings were dominating play and on the PP at the beginning of the 3rd was a bad calls. Also, the only cross check that seems to be called is if a Shark dives into the net, if a Shark cross checks a Wing it is just part of the play I guess. So in the end the Sharks scored 2 PP goals on dives and scored one goal on the broken stick.

dives are really tough to call because you're asking the referee to determine intent and has to see the play perfectly with a billion things going on. i think it should be called after games, fine the players and suspend them if they become a problem.

there was also a pretty brutal boarding call on marleau. it's not like the bad calls didn't go both ways, wings just came up on the short end tonight. they'll probably have a game when the calls will be heavily in their favor at some point in the next two. it sucks to go down 2-0 but the wings aren't out of it yet by any stretch either. if the calls continue to be bad then i guess you have a legitimate gripe.

edit: also, i have trouble forgiving bad calls on wings goalie interference calls. if you're gonna play the way they play, with someone sitting on top of the crease on basically every shift, you're GOING to get calls against you. there's just no way around it. it sucks that they were bad calls, but i think you have to take the good with the bad in that instance. they have a reputation for it, just like the habs (and lapierre especially) have a reputation for diving and got bit by that.

Dont get me wrong, I dont think there is some conspiracy or anything. After 2 games it just really seems that the penalties are not square(well they are not even close to square). The Sharks Game Winning goal in game 1 and the game tying goal tonight came after some really questionable officiating that led to 5 on 3s. It is not like the boarding call or the Heatley goalie interference ended up leading to 5 on 3s against SJ. Both probably were called because there was a huge penalty discrepancy and the officials were trying to even it up some, which in itself is stupid

Not sure it is the same thing. The Goalie thing is legal until it becomes goalie interference. It is not like the whole play is cheating from the get go. It would be like a team that plays the trap should get called for more interference penalties, because the system itself is boarder line interference, but it is still not interference until someone actually interferes. Diving is diving. The funny thing is I never thought the Sharks were a diving team. I was really surprised that Setaguchi did it in game one and never thought that Nabokov was a diver either until tonight.

I think you may be right about he suspending for diving after the fact. The Knuble goalie interference the other night should be a huge sign to the NHL that something needs to be done

no it's not the same thing, i'm just saying that at one point it's going to bite you in the ass whether you deserve it at that particular moment or not. they're just going to be looking for it and they're going to be trigger happy.

i think it's really, really poor by the nhl to start cracking down on certain things in the playoffs. i guess they're hoping the average american playoff hockey fan doesn't care how they call the game was called during the regular season. it seems the red wings are just the latest victim of the random crackdowns that have been implemented throughout the playoffs thus far.

Pretty sweet game in Detroit. The Sharks just scored 2 goals in about 5 minutes to tie the game at 3 with 7 minutes left in the game.
