When a player is generating a ton of shots on goal and none are going in, do you consider him unlucky in the sense of a player getting line drives in baseball but a horrible BABIP?

That was the situation for Hossa most of the playoffs and Toews in the final.

hossa is just so entertaining to watch. he brings that eastern european magic to the table. to a lesser extent, so does kopecky, see the game winner in game 1 of the finals.

i love watching the slovaks, everything they do they do with style.

hossa became my favorite player at some point during this season. he is amazing

i decided to re-watch the 10 minute highlight things from NHL.com for each game, starting with game 1 of the playoffs. i had forgotten how disastrous that first game was. the bouncing puck that went past niemi to tie it in the first, and then the ridiculous turnover by brouwer to give them the game winner.

it seems like it wasnt even this season when that stuff happened

Hossa was playing with a sprained MCL during the Finals.

Wow, while not scoring many goals I thought Hossa was fantastic throughout the whole of the playoffs.

It will be glossed over and forgotten because they won, but the criticism of Hossa during these playoffs was preposterous. Simply an easy target because he wasn't scoring goals and the whole "curse" thing. But I assure you, anyone who was criticizing his play doesn't know the first damn thing about hockey. He was phenomenal.

i was reading a detroit forum (i know, i know) and i saw one poster call hossa an "along-for-the-ride fraud", and another said "it's obvious by watching him that he is trying to do it all himself. he is the definition of a selfish player"

it's really amazing that so many people have this bizarre hatred towards a fantastic player who just wants to win.

i guess it all stems from his one year deal with detroit, which is ridiculous. when guys take the biggest offer, they're "typical athletes who are just in it for the money", but when a guy risks a ton of money because of an intense desire to win, he's a mercenary. very stupid, especially considering i've seen these same people call him "ho$$a" because of his big contract with the hawks. they needs to make up their minds on what they hate him for.

really, the whole one year deal thing made me like him more. it just showed that he's all about winning above anything else, and that's the guy i want on my team.

also, his celebration after the OT winner against nashville was one of my favorite celebrations ever (even though emrick effed up the call by calling him kane)

1: Of course Ryan has to be near the Cup, afterall he's Canadian.

2: Now if we can get that team on the right of the Hawks to win a championship like the two other franchises in this picture, then this would be a truly awesome picture.

3: IDC if you are a White Sox or Cubs fan, this pic, like you said dex, is pretty badass.

I agree it's pretty badass. I think it would be the ultimate badass if we could somehow get a picture with all 5 Chicago teams in uniform.

i'm really getting sick of people saying duncan keith deserved the conn smythe over toews

People say that, I just assume that's their code for saying "I don't know anything about hockey but I like reading box scores and jocking defensemen."

Toews was a beast all playoffs. Besides finishing second in points, he took more faceoffs than any other forwards in the league by a wide margin and won them at the highest rate (excluding a few guys who got eliminated early and didn't take that many). He led all forwards in takeaways (32) and takeaway/turnover differential (+23). He blocked shots, he killed penalties, he won board battles. He completely dominated the flow of play every time he stepped on the ice.

Duncan Keith is disqualified on the basis of his turnover 20 seconds into OT of game 6 alone.

i don't think keith was even our best d-man in the playoffs

Hjalmarsson

seabrook

i can't remember seabrook making a mistake all postseason, and he was one of our only guys who was laying people out on a consistent basis. hjalmarsson was good, but he's DQd for his 2 atrocious goal-costing plays in game 4

but really, all 3 guys were awesome. keith still makes way too many horrible turnovers, but watching that guy skate is pretty amazing

"Ours was better," Guillen said of the parade, "because there were more people. I guarantee there were more."

Estimates have two million fans jamming the Loop last Friday for the Hawks.

Guillen, admittedly biased, says the White Sox's winding route from U. S. Cellular Field through the neighborhoods was much longer than the Blackhawks' journey through downtown, therefore more total people were able to see it.

The city estimated 1.2 million for the White Sox parade.

But statistician's challenge the numbers that Chicago is coming up with....they think the Blackhawks really had about 400,000.

ozzie guillen seems like a pretty insecure person

Why is it that every time they show him on camera before a game, he's communicating via whistling and gestures to somebody very far away?

This is funny and I have no confirmation that it's true, it's just something a friend told me. His friend was supposedly a bodyguard/security at the parade on Friday and said Kane was really really drunk and vomited behind the stage area two seperate times before coming on stage.

I think we all knew he was a little sauced during the parade, and there was one part in the parade where they caught him struggling. On Comcast's coverage, during Versteeg's little rap, they cut over to Kane, who was below the platform, waiting to be introduced next. And when they cut to him he had his head down leaning on a railing, clearly feeling like crap, either he was hot, drunk or a combo of both.

Good times.

He was definitely in "need to rally mode" before going on stage.

For anyone that didn't know - all the SCF games are available on iTunes. I'm definitely getting game 1 (which I attended) and the clincher.

So obviously there can't be a Blackhawks "Eulogy", so they did a "Tribute" instead, by a STL Blues blogger....
