Hoffman blew a 3-run save tonight and another save earlier in the series. He may just be awful enough for our sickly offense to break through against. This will give us something to look forward to after Grabow or Smiley give up a lead in the 8th the next few days.

However much Hoffman will struggle otherwise, I think we all know he'd shut down the Cubs.

Can't say I care for pessimistic NCCubFan. There are enough of us half-empty guys running around sir.

I don't know what you're talking about. As you can clearly see, Hoffman received a Win for the game. Therefore, he was the major pitching contributor to the victory! Similarly, Chris Carpenter did not play a factor in the game, and thusly did not receive a L.

Besides, Hoffman only screwed up on two pitches! He just forgot momentarily (twice) that he isnt supposed to pitch with a softball underhand toss in high-leverage situations.

If this is the good news thread then we can say that we are only 2 games out of first and our starting pitching is not looking too bad. with the second time through the rotation maybe Lou will add a couple more pitches to the pitch count to keep the BP away from the ball

A real thing to be optimistic about would be that we could be the Houston Astros instead. They have scored 13 runs in 6 games this year. The Diamondbacks scored 13 runs in the fourth inning yesterday. Of course they will probably score 13 against our bullpen this weekend.

The Cubs pitchers had a lot of bad luck on BABIP on this road trip. The bullpen didn't have much of a margin for error. Aramis went 0 for Cincy and the bullpen probably can't get much worse as well.

Once you cross over to the wrong side of 50 (as I did this past December) and still haven't experienced a championship I think makes one a bit more pessimistic.

So true.

Except I didn't make it to 50. Not even close :)
