I wouldn't have minded Cabrera. We could've moved Theriot to 2B and improved our infield defense considerably. Not to mention, Cabrera has been pretty decent with the bat over the last several years. With that said, I'd still rather sign a starting pitcher if it was one or the other.

Agreed. But, if he could have been had for 3 mill, I would have signed him, traded Theriot and used him as a stopgap until Castro is truly ready.

I would rather have Theriot than Cabrera, even if their salary was the same. Trading Theriot also would be pretty pointless. since he's probably worth more to us than whatever we would get in return.

I pretty much agree with all of this. Cabrera is likely to decline due to age, while Theriot at least has the chance to improve. Also, I just don't see him netting enough to warrant dealing him. If he did, I'd be interested. But I don't see it.

I rather have Theriot than Cabrera... They're about the same offensively, but Theriot is better defensively and Cabrera is going to decline as well...

Cabrera last year defensively fell off the cliff and was HORRIBLE (-13.7 UZR/150)

 

Theriot UZR/150 last year was 8.3 so you can compare the 2...

At this point in his career, Cabrera does not hit as well as Theriot. At least as far as average and OBP. And I thought Cabrera was supposed to be good on defense?

Cabrera is good on defense, but he took a nosedive last year... I figured it probably the start of his decline and lost a step on D, but I'm not totally sure because I didn't really get to see him this past season.
