Re: Damon to Tigers?

According to MLBTR, Tigers are going after Damon. I dont really get the tigers, why would they sign valverde and maybe sign Damon but yet trade Granderson. I would rather keep Granderson than acquire Valverde and Damon. Its not like the Tigers got a future star in the Granderson deal. They could probably even waited Valverde out and signed him for less than they did end up signing him for.

I dont know what Damon will end up making, but its too bad Hendry couldnt have been a bit more patient after dealing Bradley. At this point, we could have probably gotten Damon for an affordable 2 year deal, maybe even a 1 year.

I'd rather have Byrd with his contract than 2 years of Damon.

Damon is a huge injury and defensive liability at this point.

I don't know if I'd call him a "future star", but Max Scherzer has shown flashes in the past.
And Schlereth has potential to be a good to really good MR/CL
Austin Jackson ain't too shabby

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Tigers may not have gotten future superstars, but those three players right there are pretty damn good young guys to have in your system

And Granderson is pretty much a platoon CF at this point in his career. So you take the good with the flaws.

damon's issues are much bigger than granderson not being able to hit lefties

Maybe, maybe not, but for one year I would tolerate Damon's issues, especially considering that got a really solid deal for Granderson.

Well, thats a pretty poor decision. Not being able to hit lefties well isn't the absolute end of the world.

What the hell does Granderson have to do with the idea that Hendry should have waited to try and sign Damon?

it's not "maybe", it's definitely. damon isn't close to the player that granderson is at this point

Huge injury liability? Hope you're kidding.

Damon has played 140 games every year his whole career.

he's 36 and has had lots of small injuries pile up over the past few seasons.... and has had the beneifit of being able to DH a good chunk of those games.

he's averaged 104 starts in the outfield over the past 3 seasons

He's had nagging injuries the last several seasons (note how often he's had to DH since going to the Yankees) and now he's on the wrong side of 35, much less 30. Given that he's an outfielder, and not a very good one, that makes him not the best option for an NL team with a limited payroll at the moment unless he was willing to come REALLY cheap and accept a bench role.
