i like this US team a lot, they definitely have that young, underdog feel and they have a few players, including kane that can make some things happen. they're still going to need some stellar goaltending.

 

i'm starting to believe, though.

how long have the americans worn those jerseys?

 

The ones they are wearing this year? I think they are new. I hate the collar shape, but otherwise I like them.

kane being on the team makes me not want to cheer for them. kane is my least favorite player in the nhl

 

My impulse is to get indignant with you. But I agree, if he was on another team I would hate him too. Hell, he IS on my team and he gives me reasons to hate him all the time. Then he knocks the water bottle off the other guys' net and I forget.

they're 1980 throwbacks, i think.

 

Oh sorry I was still watching curling. I was watching the Miracle on Ice profile earlier on NBC and thought it would be really cool if the Americans wore those jerseys again.

Here is the priority for setting the 1-12 seedings:

 

1 - Order of finish in standings (so all first place teams will be seeded before any seconds)

2 - Total points accrued

3 - Goal differential

4 - Goals scored

5 - IIHF ranking

 

USA is fifth in the IIHF ranking, behind Canada, Russia, Sweden and Finland, so they'd win that tiebreaker with the Czechs.

 

As far as the seeds locked in right now:

 

3. Russia

7. Slovakia

8. Switzerland

9. Belarus

10. Norway

11. Germany

12. Latvia

 

US will be at worst the 5 seed unless they lose by 5 or more or lose 4-0.

A fast start would be nice. After the Swiss performance I think that entire arena could get tight if we get out to a fast start.

 

That's what I'm hoping for. They have all the pressure. Turn the screws on 'em.
