I didn't think there was anything more annoying than calling people who haven't performed in the postseason as "unclutch".

I was wrong.

Calling someone who HAS performed "unclutch" is worse.

first of all I am just playing. I think most of the regular hockey followers know I dont care for Kanes overall game. Kane is a very good offensive player though. I have been very consistent about that for several years. He may at some point in his career prove me wrong, but I think him making the same money as Toews is going to be a huge mistake someday.

Most hockey followers are the same types of fans who like Aaron Miles. They want a certain type of player, regardless of productivity. And Kane's been much better defensively this season.

and I havent seen him take as many retaliation penalties this either. So he is improving. Unlike the Aaron Miles analogy, there are many things that stats do not measure in hockey that are important to winning. A good example is someone like John Madden. His value is really going to be missed next year by the Hawks, but I am not sure I will be able to statistically tell you why except for maybe face-offs.

I agree with this

yeah kane has been invisible

Kane being invisible against better opponents....hhmmm.

not sure exactly what this means, but i'm pretty sure it's something stupid.

Just my irrational dislike for Patrick Kane

kane is hit or miss, most of it is inexperience though i'd think. he has no physical edge to his game, and doesn't hold up in a physical game very well. it has nothing to do with him or his character or anything, his game just does not translate very well to a game that is physical (i.e. important games or playoff games). it could in time, but count me in the group of people that aren't fans of kane's overall game.

some people have speculated that he might be hurt though, that could explain some of his disappearing act in this tournament. he isn't the only one that has done it, and i have the same issues with the other notable player that's gone missing (Kessel). they might pick up points in important games, they might even dominate a game where the other team backs off or plays poorly (vancouver), but they just don't play well under physical scrutiny. zach parise is a small guy but he has edge to his game and he plays balls out every shift even when he's being hit and physically abused. ryan callahan is another one.

i think it's just...kane hasn't adjusted to the desperation level of the high-importance games. he doesn't play with the intensity that these other guys do, he doesn't fight for pucks, he doesn't win battles. he loses them. for a guy that isn't big, he can't get knocked off the puck so easily or his game is going to fold in games like this. also worth noting that vancouver is not a hugely physical team and wasn't really considered a huge playoff threat last season. he had a great series against them, was ok against calgary, and did nothing against detroit. even in the vancouver series he ended up a minus 4. that tells me that he played great on the power play and probably was badly outmatched at even strength with no time and space. he was -6 in a 5 game stretch against detroit. that's horrible. i'm not a big fan of +/-, but it's pretty remarkable in a short series to end up that far in the negative.

AO - homework assignment. Watch Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals against Vancouver. Then come back and apologize to us for subjecting us to that ridiculous opinion.

The "X can't play physical" is hockey's version of "Yeah, he's got 50 homers and a .450 OBP, but you can't count on him in key situations" argument.

And while the Blackhawks as a team were completely dominated by Detroit, Kane (who can't play with desperation in key situations) tied up game 5 with a late third-period goal. That's kind of clutch.

You take the good with the bad with Kane. You know he's going to give up possessions with a lack of effort on his own end, but when he gets you a hat-trick and basically wins you the game and the series, you forgive it.

I will agree with this statement and would add that my original point of him not being worth as much as Toews stands.

on a completely different subject...is there anywhere that I can actually watch the Russia/Canada game without paying more than a few dollars

Before this season, I would have 100% agreed with you. But Kane has taken such a huge step forward in his all-around game this year, that I think it's a toss-up between him and Toews.

I'm watching on Chinese spyware p2p video, so I haven't tried this link, but it may work: http://atdhe.net/

3-0 Canada now. Not messing around.
