Either way they are both very good pitchers. Wouldn't mind having either one.

Over Silva? =D>

I was for getting rid of the GM who we all knew would target pure garbage in order to get rid of a cheap, productive player. But, alas we couldn't do that.

"pure garbage" - I agree

"cheap, productive player" - If you mean Bradley, he wasn't cheap or very productive. I will agree that he was more productive than Silva will be.

He was still fairly productive and on terms of our team he was kinda cheap. I imagine he has a big bouce back year too, very frustrating how that turned out. I wish just once Jim wouldn't run a players value straight into the ground before trying to trade him.

We'll see how year 2 of Hendry with a budget works out. Year 1 wasn't so special.

I still think the solution has been, and remains -- get rid of him. We can do better than Mr. Hendry.

I could see the Orioles giving Sheets what he's asking for. Sometimes it seems like they are trying to spend confederate money when it comes to FAs. They could overpay and they could use a vet like Sheets to compliment their young rotation.

I don't think he's that nice of a guy

I see what you did there.

Maybe they'll be backhanded compliments then.

"Hey, for a guy that doesn't really belong in the majors you pitched a great game today". That's some team chemistry right there.

Ben Sheets To Throw For Teams Tuesday

By Tim Dierkes [January 14, 2010 at 11:49am CST]

Ben Sheets will throw for teams Tuesday at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, reports ESPN's Tim Kurkjian. Said Sheets: "They're going to like what they see." Kurkjian indicates six to ten teams have expressed interest, the Cubs included. Kurkjian believes a one-year deal with incentives is in order. He says to "keep an eye on Seattle," given Jack Zduriencik's familiarity with Sheets. The Mariners were first connected to Sheets on December 11th by Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Kurkjian talked to Sheets about his year off from baseball, after the righty had flexor tendon surgery in February. Sheets feels "refreshed" and "fantastic," and seems raring to go. He thinks he can regain his old form, adding "Watch, I'll show 'em."

Rumored suitors aside from the Cubs and Mariners? The Rangers, Yankees, Mets, and Orioles have been linked to Sheets this offseason, but several of those clubs have added starters since. The Angels and Dodgers would make sense.

Supposedly Sheets is working out here in Monroe. I'm trying to find out where and when so I can go watch him pitch a bit. My guess is he's throwing out at ULM, but I don't know what times he is there.

MLBN reported yesterday that it would be at ULM.

I think it will be a three team race between the Cubs, the Mariners, and the Dodgers. I don't think we win that race, but I would love to be proven wrong.

Which is, as always, in the eye of the beholder. your version of the "truth" is clearly an opinion.

I don't. I believe he is better.

In my opinion, across their careers Harden has been the better pitcher per inning he's been on the mound, while Sheets has been the better pitcher overall. Even though Ben has had injury problems of his own, he's been more reliable than Harden.

they're both fabulous pitchers when healthy and either one would be the ace of this staff (if they can take the mound at full capacity - always the question).

Bradley was traded for reasons wholly unrelated to his cost or productivity. Not sure why you're glossing over this small detail.

Not to derail the thread with another team chemistry debate, but did anybody read Shark's comments regarding Bradley? He said something to the effect of prior to last year he didn't believe that team chemistry was important at all.

It's not surprising at all that such a stupid conclusion would come from someone like Shark.
