The Braves are close to signing free-agent reliever Takashi Saito to a one-year contract, CBSSports.com has learned.

The deal, which should be announced later this afternoon, is expected to be for about $3 million.

With Saito and Billy Wagner, who signed on Wednesday, the Braves have rebuilt the back end of their bullpen with two pitchers who combined for 73 saves in 2007. Both have since come back from injuries, and the Braves are taking a shot that both will be healthy and effective in 2010.

The Braves got him cheap and only a one year deal. I am still betting the Cubs end up with Dotel to mentor Marmol in next years pen.

To "mentor" Marmol? He's been in the big leagues since 2006. If the Cubs think he can't close because he needs a high-priced "mentor" than I hope the team gets contracted.

Grabow/Guzman/Dotel/Marmol/ is a pretty nice backend to the bullpen.

Hendry always overpay for set up man and Dotel has been one of the best for awhile. He's already expressed a desire to play for the Cubs. I just see Hendry going this route.

Dotel was a dominant setup man from 2001-2003. He's currently a mid-3's ERA guy, with control issues and a knack for giving up homers. Still strikes out a lot of hitters though.

As an addendum to my bet in the wagner thread, I will put another 15 that saito has a better fip than grabow in 2010.this offseason has severely diminished my feelings towards this club.

I don't think my feelings toward the clubs can be diminished. That's the problem.

Don't get me wrong. I will still be a slave to pat and ron broadcasts every game, but there is more disdain than ever, I guess is a better way to put it. If my roommate and I get mlb ticket next year I think I will look forward to giants games with more hope, but less emotional strings

Sorry, I dont get it. 10 Million to 2 pitchers likely to throw a total of 125-135 innings, both over the hill and coming off of dehabiliating injuries and this is a good deal?

They are just trying to get something knowing they probably won't have Soriano or Gonzalez.
