The receivers are the worst unit on the team.

offensive line without question. There are no receiver stars, but there are a couple guys capable of being solid 2s. The line is completely inept.

I will not debate this.

No need to debate it, either. It really is self-evident.

and i don't think the 3-4 will be brought in, although i think it would be good for urlacher and briggs. tommie, alex and gilbert would play the DEs and roach, williams, and adams would presumably play the olbs. i don't like the 3-4, i still think it's a gimmick, come on, why is everyone standing up at the snap? seriously. get your hands on the ground you asses and play football.

It's self evident that the Bears have one of the worst receiving groups in the league too. So I think there's some debate over what unit is worse. It's clear that the Bears have one of the worst RUN blocking units in the league (and a tentative back to make things worse) but there are plenty of teams that pass protect just as bad or worse than the Bears.

The Packers have a very effective passing game with pass protection that is a lot worse than the Bears. They also have very good receivers.

It's not hard to tell the receivers are pretty much an abomination. Maybe they have potential but they're pretty awful as a group right now. There isn't an elite athlete in the bunch. Hester and Knox can fly but they're midgets. Aromoshadu is probably the best combination of size and speed but who knows about him really. I haven't been impressed with Bennett. He's not physical at all.

There surely isn't a receiver on the roster who would crack the starting lineup of any team that has a good passing attack.

How many times have the receivers caught a ball in traffic? How many times have they cut off routes that led to incompletions or picks? Can you recall a play where a receiver threw a good block downfield to spring a big run? These things just haven't happened. It's a cliche but there aren't any guys making plays.

The line sucks. The run blocking more than the pass blocking. And some (most?) of the problems can be attributed to Turner and a lack of coaching for Cutler but the receivers have been horrific as well. Watch an Eagles, Steelers, or Packers game...those guys aren't protected any better than Jay. But they're good QBs, mobile, and they have receivers that other teams actually fear. It makes a huge difference.

Hester is a legit #2 WR. He's fine. The thing to me though is that Johnny Knox can do everything he can. Hester's return skills are not special to the Bears anymore. But maybe they can be to another team. With Knox, Bennett, and Manning, you have a solid group of returners. Knox is every bit the deep threat that Hester is and should prove to be a similar type WR.

Bring in a legit #1, Bennett can stay a #2, Knox is still the 3. Then you hope Aromashodu and Iglesias can improve and get on the field more.

As for the #1. I know everyone wants Vincent Jackson, Boldin, or Brandon Marshall, but I don't see them happening. Don't sleep on Antonio Bryant. While it can be argued that he has tanked after getting big money, he has been injured a lot and had the worst QBs outside of Oakland throwing to him. He still has put up 17+ YPC and is a reliable WR with some size. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing T.O. brought in for a year, with the hopes that Iglesias, Aromashodu, and possibly another draft pick can take over as top WRs after that. As for a sleeper, what about Malcom Floyd. He's 6'5", 225 lbs. He has been a big play guy and starting to become a reliable WR for the Chargers. Probably not going to be a star at 28 years old, but could be a guy that could shine if featured with a good QB.

how about we trade you chris henry for a draft pick, that'll help your wr problem.

You can have all of our first and second rounders in 2010 for him.

That deal is dead in the water.

Only the 2nd.

IF they dont get rid of RTurner i dont think anything matters though.

If they don't fire Ron Turner after this debacle of a season I may just turn in my bears zubaz and find a new team.

turner doesn't need to be fired because his contract is up, it just won't be renewed and i think it's pretty much a slam-dunk that it won't be.

weis would be an excellent choice.

I missed the part about RT final contract year. This news is akin to a prescription of Ambien. Whew.

And what happened to Gibson this year? Damnit i had high hopes for him this year. Nothing....we saw nothing. Can we please see something this year now with 3 games left.

In the debate about who is to blame more, Angelo or Lovie, it comes down to this for me:

The Bears are clearly much more talented than the worst teams in the league, looking like crap but still thoroughlybeating Detroit, Cleveland and to a lesser extent, St. Louis. They went into Seattle, played incredibly sloppy and still won. They beat Pittsburgh. They arguably "should have" beaten 2-3 other teams this year. That would leave them below acceptable, but clearly they are talented enough to have a better record. And they can beat and/or hang with teams while playing like absolute crap. But they have been demolished repeatedly by the better teams in the league (not elite, just better). Last year they got destroyed a couple times, and got beat late in "should have won" games and of course fell short.

I think the talent is there for this team to compete, but the coaches are doing a terrible job of getting the most out of it. Sure, they aren't near the top talented team in the league, but they were the most talented NFC team in 2006 (pro bowl caliber all over the defense, solid talent on offense including 2 guys who are currently top 7 in the league in rushing) even if a lot of that talent never developed.

This coaching staff was essentially Lovie Smith and a bunch of college guys. And they have failed miserably in developing the talent they have had on the team. Quartersbacks regressed, receivers disappeared, running backs did more after leaving the team, etc. I think Angelo has clearly left a lot to be desired, but he's done enough to make this team competitive from a talent standpoint, but the coaching has been horrible, whether it is maximizing that talent, game planning, limiting losses, putting the team in the best position to win, or anything else involving coaching.

It's really baffling that two years in a row the Bears have had 3rd round draft pick receivers who do not even see the field in their rookie season. Earl Bennet is talented enough to play in this league, the Bears offense is painfully dull and predictable, yet the explanation was that Bennet couldn't figure things out his first year. Maybe the problem is Turner isn't developing his system to work with the talent he has, rather he is trying to force feed his lackluster system onto guys who might not be ideal for it.

WGN-Channel 9 reports: A group called "Bears Fans United" has put up a billboard in Arlington Heights with a message to the McCaskey family. "Do the right thing. Hire an entirely new coaching staff and general manager."

I'm all for the sentiment, but what a waste of money.

I don't think it's a waste of money, but then again it is not my money.

Doesn't sound like it's their money, or all that much to begin with.

The tally on the right has them at around $5k. And my belief is these fan campaigns usually have little to no impact. Any amount of money spent on it is a waste, imo.

I kind of agree, but it looks like they were taking donations and the sign cost 3500. If a bunch of people donate $5 to a cause that calls out the bad coach, nobody is really wasting any significant amount of money.

Yeah see, I'm not sure I believe that's what happened though. I'm guessing a select few contributed a lot more money than that. I just don't think they got 700 people to donate $5 each.

But it's cool. It's their money, and I suppose I've spent money in worse ways.

I'm sure some individuals spent more. But what about the thousands they may be paying for season tickets? What's the bigger waste?

It's a waste of money because you get no benefit from it. It accomplishes nothing. You don't receive a service, good or entertainment. I guess you could point and say "Ha ha that's awesome we got that billboard" so if you're an idiot you get enjoyment from it.

There's nothing wrong with doing it, it's just dumb.

Again, same thing with season tickets, no benefit, no service good or entertainment. What you are paying for is the hope of being entertained, whereas here you are paying for the hope of being listened to.
