Havnt heard this anywhere, Im just putting it out there. I know Jenks has gone through some rough patches, but hed be a low risk guy with only a 1 year comitment. Maybe the Sox could get more for Jenks, nut Williams and Guillen have both openly critizized Jenks, and many believe his time is up on the South Side, and has even been considered a non tender candidate. Maybe a switch to the NL could be just the thing the big guy needs.

Meanwhile, Fox who has no future with the Cubs, or the NL in general could save the White Sox from spending a few mil on someone like Thome, Vlad, or Dye. Theyve been looking for a new DH, and with the recent aditions of Peavy and Rios, God knows they could stand to save a few bucks somewhere.

Now before I get attacked for proposing this, keep in mind Im not proposing Vitters, Castro, or Cashner for Bobby Jenks, just a guy whose basically a spare part to us.

Jake Fox has no value as anything but a throw in. Bobby Jenks does have value. Obviously this trade would never ever happen.

If the White Sox are considering non tendering him, then surely theyd rather get something in return. Fox would be a great fit for them as a DH instead of going after another old guy.

I haven't read anything that suggests the Sox are considering non tendering Jenks, just media speculation about non tender possibilities.

I'm pretty sure Jake Fox hasn't proven enough to make anyone believe he really would be a "great fit" at DH.

One could easily make the case that in overall production, Jenks > Fox.

But on a production-per-dollar basis, they're pretty close in value. Interest in guys that can play a role while making league minimum is roughly on par with interest in sub-elite closers that make $6M a year.

Is Jenks that much different than Kevin Gregg last year?

Ummm.... yes. Jenks wasn't spectacular last year, but he definitely outperformed Gregg

Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I meant, does Jenks' profile now look different than Gregg's did last offseason when he was traded. I wasn't meaning to compare their 2009 seasons.

Gregg 2007: 74 G, 32 SV, 4 BS, 3.89 FIP, 1.23 WHIP

Gregg 2008: 72 G, 29 SV, 9 BS, 3.80 FIP, 1.28 WHIP

Jenks 2008: 57 G, 30 SV, 4 BS, 3.41 FIP, 1.10 WHIP

Jenks 2009: 52 G, 29 SV, 6 BS, 4.47 FIP, 1.28 WHIP

Surely, if the White Sox wanted to be rid of Jenks, they could get a much better package from another team than Fox from the Cubs.

I love Jake Fox. But come on. David Ortiz was released by the Twins, not traded to some AL team looking for a good hitting DH. Matt Diaz was released by two AL teams. Jake Fox is not going to bring Bobby Jenks to the Cubs. Just not going to happen.

One dimensional players just aren't attractive enough to make other teams take notice. Most teams have a dozen Jake Fox's in their own organizations.

Or Bradley for Jenks.

I suggested this awhile ago when the rumors started about Jenks possibly being DFAed. The WS could certainly use an OF/DH with Dye and Posednick leaving and Quentin as a question mark. The discussion did bring up the Ozzie/Bradley circus, but maybe Ozzie might be the kind of manager that Bradley needs (if such a manager does exist). Would the WS go for Bradley + Berg/Stevens + $6 million for Jenks? If the WS want Fox, we can add Fox and cut the money to $4 million.

I dont know if they would go for Bradley, but if Fox isnt enough, maybe they would go for Fox+Fuld, whose a younger Podsednik+one of Berg/Stevens. Maybe even Fontenot instead of Fuld.

They would absolutely not go for any of those packages. Bobby Jenks can net them something decent, no matter how much he's fallen.

I don't necessarily want Jenks. The point of my proposal was to dump Bradley and get something of more value than Guillen, Burrell, etc. At least Jenks would have a role on the 2010 Cubs (unlike Guillen and Burrell who are DHs).

I could see where the Sox would be interested in Bradley for Jenks. From a baseball standpoint Bradley fits the OF/DH need that they clearly have. He would be a clear upgrade over Dye.

If they got Bradley and he performed the way he normally does it would be a way to stick it to the Cubs. Bradley would probably be happy/ motivated to play for the Sox so he could stick it to Cubs fans. So it works on a crazy Sox agenda standpoint too.

Jenks for Bradley would be a fairly even trade with the Sox getting better talent and the Cubs saving money on a guy that they could actually use or flip to some mid level team looking for a closer.

If we could convince anyone that Bradley would be "happy/motivated" for any reason, GMs would be knocking on Hendry's door in droves.
