Mentioned that the gap between the big market and small market teams would lead to a large number of arb eligible players being non-tendered. He specifically mentioned Garrett Atkins and Jeremy Hermida. I guess it's sort of how Lee was available in '03 although some of these guys would be more than a year from free agency. Wonder if we could benefit?

I hope so, i think if we trade Bradley, the cubs should go after Hermida, he's young and productive. Cubs need to add some youth to their lineup. I can imagine Ricketts increasing payroll more than expected if Hendry comes to him and tells him that a lot of good players will become available cheap because of arbitration. So we'll see.

Exactly what I was thinking (hoping) when I was listening to Olney this morning.

since when do corner outfielders who play bad defense and can't manage 30 xbh's in ~500 pa's count as productive?

i think people have forgotten that hermida has played baseball in 2008 and 2009.

I feel like the only place I see his name is on this site. I don't know anything about him. But looking at his career he was a productive minor leaguer and has been a decent hitter outside of south Florida. And he is just now entering his prime. He is kind of intriguing. But as a lefty, with Fukudome already needing platoon help, I don't see a fit.

Hermida is 25 with still some potential left to be fulfilled, with a new hitting coach thats supposedly the best in the game, i would take a shot at him

Take a shot on him yes. Insert him into the starting lineup in the offseason, no.

I'd be OK with Hermida as a starter for us if we also wound up with Hudson. A guy with upside for the middle of the order who may be able to find his stroke with Jaramillo and a very solid second baseman who will be on a short term deal. Not sexy, but may be about as good as we can hope for, given our lack of funds available right now.
