i'm wondering at what point can we give up on this team, they keep dragging me in but quickly dash my hopes

they are clever like that

After you give up on them, they'll go on a hot streak to suck you back in again, and then they'll tank once and for all about mid-september.

This is totally the exact opposite of the Houston series at Wrigley. We just got stomped.

The good news: It's 4 games. We ran into a hot team playing on the road at a park where they play very very well.

The bad news: The Cardinals won all 4 of their games while we went 1-3. We now play the Phillies and if we don't snap out of this, we're in trouble because the Reds aren't going to help us, they suck. Now is time to see what this team is made of. In the previous 2 years when their backs are to the wall, they fall flat on their faces or run and hide (Florida series in '07, playoffs in '07, '08). Sure its possible for the Cubs to recover even if we don't play well, but the odds will significantly decline if we lose 2 of 3 or get swept by Philly. So while these aren't must wins, they are as close to that as you can get in August.

The schedule's not going to get any easier. The Phillies....the Dodgers are on the horizon next week. They have a 10 game stretch of playing St. Louis, Milwaukee and San Francisco on the road in September. ](*,)

Without Ramirez (uncertain period of time), do you really see this team getting out of its funk against the Phillies?
