How much would that suck if this trade was really going to go through until Johnson broke his foot?

Johnson officially broke his foot?

Wow, looks like we're going to have to bust out the golf carts to track down balls in the gap if we acquire Dunn.

Yeah, someone reported it in the Cubs Discussion part of the board. Out one month.

Dunn in left, Soriano in center, Bradley in right, and pray that the pitchers miss a lot of bats.

EDIT: This was in response to EJ's post.

1. Who plays center? Reed isn't an every day player

2. Who leads off?

3. Where does Dunn play? Bradley? Soriano?

do not want

Fox in center. \:D/

Even with a broken foot, he could play center better than Dunn, Bradley, or Soriano. My question is: Is this another Steve Stone rumor?

fukudome has a no trade clause, right? why on earth would he approve a deal to the nationals?

Why would the Nats want him at his current contract?

It makes zero sense for the Nationals as well. Fukudome is making over $12 million the next 2 seasons. Why would the Nationals want him unless the Cubs were willing to eat a significant part of that money?

I'm sure that would be a key part of it if there's anything to this (which I don't think there is).

Here is a link to Paul Sullivan saying Johnson will be out a month with a broken foot.

As to the rumored trade, nobody has said what station, who said what, etc. Instead of coming back and saying "I heard it," why not provide the salient details? You know without them you are creating havoc.

What salient details do you want to hear?

Who said it? What was said? Were they talking about it like they heard it as a rumor or were they just throwing things out there?

I heard it on the radio doesn't give us much.

This is probably more speculation than anything else. I'd be very shocked to hear that this trade had any sort of teeth to it. Probably people throwing around trade scenarios just for the sake of discussion.

I don't think I'd trade Fukudome for Dunn straight up even if one of the other Cubs OF's could play CF well. The fact that Fukudome has two more years on his deal while Dunn only has 1 would be the only reason I would consider it. It's probable though that Fukudome would be a better player than Dunn if he was in RF and the flexibility to play CF just adds even more to his value.

I think a projection would have to be pretty bearish on Fukudome's future offensive production to make Dunn an upgrade.

In a deal like this, I'd hinge it on Dunn signing a long-term deal. Maybe you'd be able to flip Bradley for a speedy CF'er if you got Dunn.

This is why I hate the trade deadline in the middle of the damn afternoon, because it gives the GM's 8 less hours of wheeling and dealing. Make it midnight EST like it always was. One of the things I loved most on my birthday was waking up and immediately turning on ESPN to see all the trades that went down.

Someone around here knows that if you put the word "Dunn" in a transactions thread title, the response will be Pavlovian

I hadn't thought of this before, and the Johnson injury kills this possibility, but I wonder if the original plan (if there's anything to this in the first place, which I have doubts) included moving Soriano back to 2B. That would have meant an outfield of Dunn, Johnson, and Bradley. There was some discussion about moving Soriano back to 2B earlier in the season.

You know, that's a good point. Second base has been our worst (non pitcher) offensive position all year and moving sori there would potentially help that. Plus, it would make our defense hilarious to watch.

Word is that Hendry was close to making the trade until stmarkcubs posted it on the internet and the trade rumor received negative comments, causing Hendry to back out of the deal.

Soriano obviously plays 2nd with Fuld in CF

No need to make any deals, I think. The Cubs have better upgrades just from getting healthy than are available on the market.
