Worst case scenario, Lugo plays like Miles or Blanco.

Best case scenario, he doesn't.

For league minimum why not give it a shot?

If it means that Miles (I mean Aaron) won't see Chicago again as a Cub, then what's the downside?

The Red Sox will eat like 20 million on Lugo(remainder of 9 mil in '09, 9 mil each for '10+'11), the Jays 15 on Ryan but we cant eat the 3+ million left on Miles contract?

they don't have to pay him a dime in 2011.

To go into more detail, here are the details of Lugo's contract:

# 4 years/$36M (2007-10), plus 2011 vesting option

* signed by Boston as a free agent 12/06

* $1M signing bonus (paid 4/07 - 10/07)

* 07:$8M, 08:$9M, 09:$9M, 10:$9M, 11:$9M vesting option

* option vests with 2,400 PAs 2007-10 & 600 PAs 2010

He had 630 PA's in 2007, 307 in 2008 and 123 in 2009. That's a total of 1060. So for the next year and a half, he'd need another 1340 PA's. The most PA's ever in a season is 778, and matching that in 2010 would mean Lugo would still need another 562 PA's this year to meet that requirement.

There's not a chance in hell that option vests.

The AL official indicated that Lugo has been working out at the Mets’ complex in the Dominican Republic. The person predicted that once Lugo clears waivers, he’ll be signed by the Mets. Lugo, 33, looked awful at shortstop in a series against the Mets at Fenway Park. He hit .284 with one homer and eight RBI in 109 at-bats for the Red Sox this season. Lugo has roughly $13.5 million remaining on his original four-year deal with Boston, so the Mets must wait until he is a free agent — as was the case with the Sheffield signing — in order to be responsible only for a prorated portion of the major-league minimum salary of $400,000.

That post combined with the Clippers part of your user name as well as your sig might have made that one of the more memorable first posts on here.

Welcome.

I'd rather have Fontenot than Lugo.

And we REALLY don't need another mediocre infielder.

I'm just kind of wondering why Boston gave Lugo 9 mil a year. I don't think he was ever worth that much.
