How many of you watched MLB's re-airing of the 2008 All-Star game today? Great game but too bad the NL didn't win. I wish I had known ahead of time, I would have arranged it so I could record it. Right now MLB Network is re-airing the 1971 game at Tiger Stadium, I'm curious as to how many Cubs were named to the NL squad. Just saw that Glenn Beckert threw out a runner. Of course I'm waiting to see if Billy Williams is on the team, I would be suprised if he's not. Do you think Ernie's on the team?

Beckert, Fergie Jenkins, Don Kessinger, and some guy named Ron Santo represented the Cubs.

Thanks SweetPete, those are all good selections but I'm suprised B.W. wasn't added to the squad...although I don't know what his stats were in the first half of '71.

1970 and 1972 were his best Cub seasons. I've always believed he really should have won the MVP award at least one of those seasons. 1971 was good, but not as good as 1970 or 1972.

Last year's game was amazing. Because the Cubs had the best record in baseball we were obviously super interested in it. We saw multiple lead changes, good pitching, timely hitting, multiple Cubs pitchers shutting down the AL hitters in extra innings, a game saving throw from Nate McClouth to nail the game winning runner at home, Aaron Cook getting himself out of a bases loaded 0 outs jam with the winning run at 3rd, Dan Uggla having one of the worst possible games you could have (0-3, GIDP with runner on 3rd, 1 out in a tie game, K with a runner on 3rd, 1 out in a tie game, 3 errors). Very enjoyable.

That's my lingering memory from the game.

I believe there was a quote from one of the guys at the Elias Sports Bureau that pretty much said that Dan Uggla literally had the worst game in the history of major league baseball. No player had ever had that combination of disasters offensively and defensively in the same game, ever.
