Wow. Was that an actual non-stressful save from Gregg? Amazing.

You wouldn't have known it listening to Ron.

Good to see great pitching from Harden, Marmol, and Gregg tonight. Guess it doesn't mean all that much though since it's the Pirates.

Santo was stressing hardcore. I'm not sure I can take much more of his "why us?" shtick.

He basically has the same OPS this season as he did last season. Actually, it's a couple points higher this season.

Yeah but I'd rather his OPS be OBP-heavy than SLG-heavy. We need guys like him getting on base, not cranking HRs.

I agree I would rather have Theriot, who will most likely be batting 2nd the rest of the season, having a OBP strong OPS and not a SLG strong OPS. Theriot's OBP is what .335 right now? I would much prefer he went back to his slap hitting, going to RF, working the count ways and had a OBP around .370-.385 and SLG about .100ish points less.

yeah but i don't think you can assume that pitchers are going to keep walking theriot 73 times a year if he is just a singles hitter.

The next five pitching matchups look like this:

Ted Lilly vs Ross Ohlendorf

Randy Wells vs Virgil Vazquez

Ryan Dempster vs Seth McClung

Carlos Zambrano vs Jeff Suppan

Rich Harden vs Braden Looper

We have an edge in all five of those matchups. At least go 4-1 please.

Please, we're going to put Z on waivers and he'll be gone before then. Trashsel will be making the start instead.

I'd still take Trachsel over Suppan. Unless its the NLCS.

Yes but in typical Gregg fashion, he did turn two different 0-2 counts into 3-2 counts with his incessant nibbling.

yeah. the fact that his OPS is the same as it was last year (thereabouts) is mitigated by the fact that it's buffered by a handful of fluke home runs early in the season. I'm not saying that you can take those HRs from him, but going forward, if all things stay the same, he's going to fall behind last year's numbers.

I agree, but if he goes back to his old ways his BA will probably rise a little as he swing will be shorter and he will focus on just putting the ball in play instead of driving it. So you also have to take that into account, but I do agree he probably will need to hit .310-.320 to maintain a high .300 OBP.

How uncommon is it for a night game to be played and finished before it gets dark in Chicago? Heck, I didn't watch the game, it might have still been somewhat light in Pittsburgh.

With the confluence of the time zone difference, the very short game (2:17), and the fact that we're only a few days removed from the summer solstice, it's not all that surprising.

Santo is still doing Cubs games? I thought for sure he would have been fired years ago for being a poor baseball broadcaster.

Son, just be sure you don't fired for being a poor poster. Btw, what was that definition of median production you were gonna give us back in the OPS thread ????
