Will Vitters have another 0-4? He's gone back to back games at 0-4 and has a 484 OPS in June.

I'm going to go ahead and guarantee Vitters will not go 0-4.

RHP Diego Encarnacion was promoted from DSL Cubs 1 to the AZL Cubs after securing a visa, per Arizona Phil.

DSL Cubs 1 hitting coach Hector Ortega is the new AZL Cubs hitting coach (their hitting coach - Ricardo Medina - had gone up to Boise as the original Boise hitting coach - Desi Wilson - had gone to Iowa to replace Von Joshua).

Oneri Fleita on the Tennessee Smokies - don't expect too many midseason promotions from Daytona:

Knoxville News-Sentinel[/url]"]Right-handed pitcher Andrew Cashner, the Cubs' No. 1 draft pick in 2008, has been limited to 10 games and 34 innings (0-0, 1.85 earned-run average) at Daytona but won't make it to Tennessee in time for the restart, if at all.

"I tell people he has stuff very similar to (former Cub) Kerry Wood," Fleita said. "But he sustained an oblique injury and fell behind during spring training. We'll see."

...

Catcher Welington Castillo, No. 5 among the Cubs' prospects, threw out 60 percent of runners attempting to steal but suffered through a season-long slump (.207) in his second tour of duty with Tennessee.

However, that wasn't disconcerting to Fleita because Castillo made progress handling the pitching staff and calling pitches. That has been a point of emphasis since spring training.

"He is learning to catch and that's a priority," Fleita said. "It's hard to do both. He's done a heck of a job and a lot better than the first month of the season."

Imagine Oneri's compliments if the Cubs farm system was as good as, say, Texas or San Francisco's.

Q & A with Boise starter Jon Nagel - primarily talking about getting drafted and his Tommy John surgery rehab.

Is it extreme dyslexia to see Boise and read Peoria?

Guyer is having a solid game too and his numbers now look much, much better at Daytona than his rough stay in Tennessee.

Chirinos is a HR away from the cycle in Game 1 of Daytona's DH.

he's basically a non-prospect and is too old for that league, but hey, at least he's giving them really good production.

castro is also 3-5 in that game with a triple and 3 runs scored.

Pretty much, considering that most of Daytona's prospects are not exactly known for their hitting prowess. He might be one of those late bloomer types, but he's been in this system since 2001 and this is his fourth go-round in Daytona. The guy is still 25, in spite of all that.

2 scoreless thus far for Jay Jackson...

5 scoreless IP now with 1H 0BB 5K. The ERA is all the way down to 2.95.

That's Jay Jackson's final line.

Su-Min Jung with a scoreless first but is in a jam in the 2nd. He ends up giving up 1 unearned run in the 2nd: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K.

J Jax through 5 with 0 runs 5Ks 1 hit and no BBs. Iowa?

No need to be impatient with him. He's having a great run, but I'd like to see him keep up this success over a longer stretch of the season.

i'm a little surprised they lifted him after only 78 pitches.

Only his second start back from the line drive leg injury and he was on more than standard 4 days rest this time around.

He's been having some short outings lately. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs are trying to minimize the effects of dead arm since this is his first full season of professional baseball.

Jung's night might be over (he racked up a lot of pitches in the 2nd inning when he gave up an unearned run): 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP, 2 GO-4 FO. The error was by Cliff Andersen in LF, not by Cerda or Lee.

The Hawks jump ahead 2-1 thanks to a Jose Valdez single, a Hak-Ju Lee single, a Logan Watkins RBI single and a Jae-Hoon Ha RBI groundout. Matt Cerda was then robbed of an RBI single. Then Logan Watkins was thrown out at home on a WP (very lucky bounce off the wall).

Valdez and Lee can fly.

Jung goes out for the 4th and finishes his night with a quick 1-2-3 inning: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 1 HBP, 3 GO-6 FO. Solid pro debut for an 19-year old in the NWL.
