Harden (back) comes off the DL Saturday to make his first start since May 17. The Cubs also expect to get IF Ryan Freel (hamstring) back from the DL today.

So who gets sent down, Scales or Blanco?

Miles. No, probably Scales.

I say try Freel at leadoff and see how it works and send Soriano to 6th or wherever. It couldnt be any worse than our current configuration.

I remember the cursed day we aquired Freel, thinking hed be a solid backup for Ramirez. Sadly, later that evening we learned that wouldnt be the case.

You're only making your offense worse by putting a guy who cannot get on base or hit for power or average in the leadoff spot.

they just said on the radio pre-game that Freel "remains on the DL".

There is a god.

If there was a god that Miles would not be on the Cubs.

I really think Freel is just about done in the majors. His legs just continue to get worse and worse. Remember that he went on the DL it was just because the Cubs needed a roster spot and he was only supposed to be out 4-6 days. Instead, he can't make it back when he's eligible (I haven't heard why, but I would assume because he isn't completely 100%).

Freel played the game so hard for a few years that it has obviously taken a toll on his body. Between the leg injuries and the concussions, I just can't see him staying healthy very long or playing at a high level when he is moderately healthy.

I would have expected him to play a couple games in the minors before being activated - I wonder why he's skipping the rehab assignment. It's not like he's a major star - Aaron Miles did it last week.

Totally ridiculous to send Scales back down and carry 13 pitchers if Freel weren't coming back right away. 12 pitchers is already more than necessary; 13 is complete BS.
