Superb performance by the bullpen

22.1 inning 7 runs in June.

 

and the starters have been even better.

They were great yesterday. They had to wait around forever for our offense to do something. Even Patton somehow got the job done.

It seems that the pen is OK when were losing or tied, but if they come in with a lead, especially a small one, lord help us.

I think the pen is being "figured out." Lou is realizing that the best arms are guys like Ascanio and Guzman (and Marmol eventually, I'd think). It just took him a while to realize that.

Yeah, they're not holding leads, that's true. They did great to keep us tied for several innings yesterday, but I'm really expecting leads to be held, first and foremost.

Marmol is still the best arm , no question. He just needs to get his confidence in his stuff back. When hes thowing strikes, he makes even the best hitters look lost. He might benefit from a few innings of mop up duty.

I've been really pleased with Guzman's progress. In the beginning of the year it seemed he was giving up a run per outing but since that time he's been our best arm out of the pen.

Marmol needs to find his release point. His release point is so inconsistent, it's ridiculous.
