It was'nt turned in by Sutter, Eckersly or anyone you may have heard of. It was turned in by Ernie Shore and is impossible to equal.

Starting a game in 1917 for the Sox, Ruth walked the 1st hitter. Talk about a short fuse...he went ballistic on Umpire Brick Hughs and they went nose to nose until the Babe smacked him one. "Get that big ape outa here and go with him!" Owens told the catcher.

So in comes Shore COLD and the new catcher that he had little experience with. Ump Owens, still pissed yelled "Play ball" after 3 warmup pitches. The runner on 1st figured this would be a good time to steal so he go's for it and is gunned out.

Shore then proceeded to retire the NEXT 26 BATTERS in order. Perfect game? No...you gotta retire 27. But as close as you can get.

The catcher must haved called as good a game as Shore hurled there. Pretty good Battery that day.

The Babe hit an umpire?? No way! He was a lovable oversized kid. He'd never do anything like assault umpires (did it three times) or charge into the stands to attack fans (did it twice).

Once upon a time I believe it was recognized as a perfect game, because Shore retired 27 men in a row. But several years ago the rules for no-hitters were revised, and some previously recognized no-hitters got thrown out (such as Harvey Haddix pitching a perfect game for 9 innings and the Cubs' Hippo Vaughn pitching a no-hitter for 9 innings against Fred Toney, who pitched a legitimate no-hitter in the very same game). Ruth and Shore are still credited with a combined no-hitter since the only baserunner was a walk.

Texas reliever Austin Wood pitched 13 innings, including 12 1-3 of no-hit ball before allowing a two-out single to Tony Sanchez in the 19th.

“In my 41 years of coaching, the effort by Austin Wood was the best pitching performance I have ever seen,” said Texas coach Augie Garrido, the Division I leader in career victories. “Unbelievable.”

I would say that last night's performance by this Texas kid deserves to be in the discussion.

Why is the performance impossible to equal?
OK, it's not. I shudda said beat?

That kid that pitched 12 no hit innings in relief DEFINATELY is in the discussion!

When the winningest college coach in history says its the best performance he has ever seen it should take notice. 12.1 no hit innings is incredible to begin with.
