i'm not saying it should be this game, but hopefully carpenter will start in the next 2-3 days rather than wait an entire turn after throwing just an inning yesterday.

Yeah, that would be nice. I was extremely annoyed to see a rain delay after just a half inning (couldn't they have seen that coming?), and such a dominating half inning at that.

I'm guessing this is when there'll be roster movement to get more pitchers to Tennessee since they have two double headers coming up over the next two days.

Any idea whose getting called up to Iowa from Tennessee to replace Fox?

Steve Clevenger.

Another catcher huh? I wouldve liked to see Marquez Smith. I know he just got to AA recently, but hes 24, which is a bit old for a guy who has never been past that level.

Clevenger can play 1B on days Chris Robinson catches and this allows Welington Castillo more PT behind the plate.

I don't want to jump the gun on Clevenger being promoted as this move is not yet official.

It's official:

WELCOME ABOARD: The I-Cubs have added C Steve Clevenger to the active roster today from Double-A Tennessee. Clevenger was batting .364 with a home run and 10 RBI in 26 games with the Smokies. He had four doubles, three triples, 10 walks, and eight strikeouts. The Cubs drafted Clevenger in the seventh round of the 2006 draft out of Chipola (FL) JC. He began the season with a .307 career average in 241 games in the minor leagues. This will be his first call to Triple-A.

To recap:

SS Andres Blanco promoted from Iowa to Chicago.

1B/OF Jake Fox promoted from Iowa to Chicago.

LHP Jason Waddell promoted from Iowa to Chicago.

LHP Neal Cotts demoted from Chicago to Iowa.

3B Bobby Scales demoted from Chicago to Iowa.

C Steve Clevenger promoted from Tennessee to Iowa.

Hmm. I'd like to see Clevenger play more. Not sure moving him from a 2-catcher roster to a 3-catcher roster, one of whom is hitting .370, will help. Will be interesting to see what they do with 1B. Deeds, Dubois, Johnson, and Clevenger could all conceivably get some action, but the manager will probably use only one or two of them.

I don't think Mark Johnson will cost Clevenger playing time and Dubois won't be a threat at first base as he hasn't played an inning there yet this season. There will also be a few DH opportunities for Dubois/Deeds/Reynolds when they play an AL team.

I think Clevenger's bat should be at AAA.

Iowa (game two): RHP Kevin Hart (0-3, 5.18 ERA, 24.1 IP, 28 K/7 BB)

Daytona: RHP Ryan Searle (3-2, 2.43 ERA, 37 IP, 19 K/10 BB)

Those two are highlights of how ERA can disconnect with K/BB. Hart's K/BB is much better; who'd have guessed his ERA is also more than twice as high?

Hart's Advanced Line (1 GS 24.1 IP)

5.18 ERA -- 3.73 FIP -- 1.23 WHIP -- 10.36 K/9 -- 2.59 BB/9 -- 20.2 LD% -- 52.9 GB% -- 26.9 FB%

All of these numbers are inflated due to the fact that he's only started one game

Mitch Atkins needs to drop down to AA Tennessee he is ineffective in Iowa

He really has struggled with the hits and the home runs. But he had some success last year at AAA (4.47 ERA in 54.1 IP) - I don't know if returning to AA will help him.

I understand he had some success last year, but this year he has been horrid. Check out this line.

2-5 WL -- 8.38 ERA -- 7.82 K/9 -- 4.10 BB/9 -- 5.23 FIP -- 1.19 K/BB -- 10.3 H/9

He is just getting crushed, he's averaging 10 hits per game on him for god sake. His FIP is a lot lower than I expected, I guess his defense just isn't helping him out.

Arizona Phil @ The Cub Reporter[/url]"]Robert Hernandez was clubbed for seven runs in a nightmarish bottom of the 1st inning and the EXST Giants cruised to 9-3 victory over the EXST Cubs on Indian Bend Park Field #4 in Scotsdale this morning, but not to worry to much, because Logan Watkins and Matt Cerda drove-in two runs apiece and Su-Min Jung and Toby Matchulat combiined to throw six innings of two-hit shutout ball, as the another squad of EXST Cubs defeated another squad of EXST Giants 5-1 at Indian Bend Park Field #3, in a game played simultaneous to the one on Field #4 And I was able to watch both games simutaneously, too.

Also, AZ Phil indicates that OF Jae-Hoon Ha (who has been hitting well in extended spring training) is out injured.

Well, Atkins recovers to put up a respectable outing (though he left with 2 on and 2 outs in the 6th and Ruhlman stranded the runners).

Atkins' final line: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, 2 HR, 3-6 GO-FO, 115 pitches (68 strikes).
