The Peoria DH will be 2 7 inning games correct? Ill be there near the Chiefs dugout!

yup, sure will be. I'm glad we got rained out last night - I was not in the mood. Today looks like a much saner day at work, so should work out great.

Rehabbers Justin Berg and Marco Carrillo bumped scheduled starter Larry Suarez to the middle innings today at Fitch. Berg did well and Carrillo did really well (and might be ready to be called up to Daytona or Tennessee). But I care more about Larry Suarez so that's the part I will quote (so click the link if you want to read more about Berg and Carillo):

Arizona Phil @TCR"]19-year old 6'4 255 Venezuelan bonus baby (and Carlos Zambrano clone) Larry Suarez was pushed back to the 6th inning to accomodate Berg and Carrillo, but once he got into the game, he pitched three solid innings (42 pitches - 30 strikes), allowing one run on three hits, while walking none and striking out five. Suarez has really nasty stuff, and with the improved command he has shown this Spring (he was rehabbing from elbow surgery most of last year), he could be in line for a big year at Boise (or possibly even at Peoria or Daytona, if the Cubs opt to move him out of Fitch Park before mid-June). Suarez has been one of the top pitchers (so far) at EXST (RHPs Julio Pena and Su-Min Jung being the other two).

...

PITCHERS:

1. Justin Berg - 0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 0 K, 2/0 GO/FO, 16 pitches (12 strikes)

2. Marco Carrillo - 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 1 PO, 4/3 GO/FO, 51 pitches (34 strikes)

3. Larry Suarez - 3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 5 K, 3/1 GO/FO, 42 pitches (30 strikes)

4. Melvin Vasquez - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 2/0 GO/FO

5. George Pineda - 1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 1 K, 1/0 GO/FO

NOTE: Berg's inning was terminated early (with two outs) when he reached his proscribed pitch count, and an extra half-inning was played after the Cubs had already won the game 3-2 in nine innings, allowing Pineda to get his pre-scheduled inning of work

Thomas and Flaherty both have home runs in their respective games. Vitters is 0 for 2 as a DH, and Darwin Barney has a single and a walk.

Searle is having control problems. 3 IP, 3 H(all 1B), 1 ER, 2/3 K/BB, 3-4 GO-FO, and a balk

casey lambert is the joel pineiro of the southern league - he looks pretty good when you see his ERA but then you look at his K/BB and realize that the ERA is mostly thanks to luck.

Iowa up 16-3. Snyder and DuBois with 2 HR each and Das Wunderkind is 3-5 with a double. Shark with a meh 2 ER on 6 hits in 4 innings. 3 Ks and 0 BB to go with it. Edited by Little Slide Rooter

Starlin Castro was 1/4 with a home run for Daytona.

Junior Lake went 1/3 for Peoria with a triple (and 2 Ks). Chris Huseby threw 2 scoreless innings and racked up 3 more Ks and 1 BB.

The way Fox, Snyder, and DuBois are absolutely dominating the PCL, its almost frusterating that we dont have spots for them. I didnt realise that Snyder was a former 1st round pick, number 18 by the Indians in '03. Hopefully all 3 get called up in September and we can get a glimpse of what theyre capable of.

vitters is 3-3 in the second game, continuing his quest to break the minor league record for singles.

The second one would have been a double but Flaherty had to make sure the LFer didnt catch it when he dove. so he stopped at second.

Nate, is Harrison as impressive as his stat line shows? Can't imagine there are too many 2b opsing .900 +.

Just got back from the Chiefs double header, and like usual I had a blast. The 1st game the wind was blowing out pretty hard, but all 3 hrs the Chiefs hit were legit. Wasnt too impressed with Belivue, and I cant tell you how hard he was throwing as the radar didnt start working until after he was out of the game. Harrison looked real bad on breaking pitches tonight, 1st time Ive seen him so it may have been a bad night, but he was flailing away at breaking pitches. Ridling has some power wow. I was pretty impressed with his D as well, but his power is impressive. Vitters is impressive. The ball just sounds good off his bat. Brenley is a beast. Damn that kid is big, and his hr was a shot. For those who have been to Peoria it hit the top of the netting in left field that protects the cars on that road. Oh, and Brenleys girlfriend is HOTTTT, wow. Lastly, I liked Huseby. He has kind of a funky delivery, but he had 2 really impressive innings.

Ok now for the 2nd game, Carpenter was impressive. He hit 93 a few times, but mainly sat 88-91, but his offspeed pitch was nasty. Only a couple hard hit balls against him all night, the 1st batter of the game, and Moreno(sp) hit a ball foul that had the distance. If he could add about 2 mph or so on his fastball and consistently sit between 90-93, he could be somebody to really watch. The QC starting pitcher I dont think hit 90mph the entire game, but the Chiefs couldnt do squat against his breaking pitch either. Vitters had a real good 2nd game, with every ball he hit smoked. I dont think he even had a defensive chance the entire game, so I cant comment on that. Now, regarding his ejection, in my opinion it was completely ridiculous, and just a minor league umpire trying to be seen. Tie game and base hit and Vitters tries scoring from 2nd. The ball clearly beat him to home, but was up the 1st base side a little, which gave Vitters time to head first slide to the back side of the plate. Where I was sitting which was 3 rows up, exactly on line with the 3rd base foul pole behind home, Vitters got his hand in before being tagged on his shoulder. Umpire called him out, and Vitters got up, and tossed his helmet to the ground(kinda like what Dye did) and the ump kicked him out. Vitters didnt say a word to the ump, look at the ump, nothing, but was still kicked out because he tossed his helmet. Noone beside Josh could possibly know if he tossed his helmet, because he thought he was safe, or he tossed it because he was the go ahead run int he bottom of the 6th inning and just got thrown out trying to score. Like I said, In my opinion it was BS.

Overall a real good time like usual, and Im planning on going a lot more often.

Huh, the velocity for Carpenter surprises me. According to BA, he was 92-95 and topped out at 97 last year at Boise. I wonder if Peoria's gun is slow. Good to hear his curve looks good.

Did you get a read on Huseby's velocity?

Thanks for the report.

I want to say the gun was only reading 88-90 for Huseby but it looked like he was throwing harder than that. Whatever he was throwing QC couldnt touch, and werent getting good swings at all. Actually there wasnt anybody on QC that was overly impressive except the 2nd game starter, and he had Peoria confused, but again his gun readings were 88 or so also. Im thinking the gun was slow like you said, but not sure. I was definatley impressed with Carpenter though.

How many ejections is that for Vitters? Three?

I think so heck its 2 in 2 weeks isnt it? Didnt he get kicked on his hr/non hr play?

Yeah he is. Always seems to be getting on base. Nice pop too. Drives the ball to the gaps

The gun isnt slow. Carp is 91-93 sometimes touching 94-95. Huseby is 88-91. And their second pitcher was an anomaly tonight. We hit three bombs off him in April and he has more walks than IP on the season but had control tonight. He had 19 WP in 10 1/3 innings last season. We do struggle with curveballs and he was throwing his for strikes tonight.

Tiger - 2 ejections for Vitters. And this one was COMPLETE bs. Bad bad umpiring.

Thanks I was wondering cause he was making the Chiefs look bad that 2nd game. And glad to see Im not the only person who thought the ejection was BS. Minor league umpire who wanted to be seen basically. Vitters said nothing to the guy

Arizona Phil @TCR"]Besides Hoorelbeke's clutch 8th inning double, the one other offensive item of note was a two-hit day (plus a SF-RBI and a stolen base) for Dwayne Kemp, who played shortstop today. Kempy has been on fire at the plate, and he looks a lot more relaxed this season in the field, too. He showed off his athleticism at SS today, making four fine stops & throws. If the Cubs can become convinced that Kemp can play SS in addition to 2B, he would be more-likely to get a promotion to Peoria a lot sooner. He brings a lot of positive energy to the field, and he has surprising power for a little guy (sort of like a right-handed hitting version of Mike Fontenot).

Kemp at SS?

That could make him really interesting. As far as I know, he's never played there before in the Netherlands.
