So Robert Hernandez is in extended spring training because he sprained his ankle at the end of spring minor league camp and had to rehab. He's slated to head to Daytona soon. Dwayne Kemp had a big game:

Arizona Phil @ TCR[/url]"]Dwayne Kemp had three hits (including two triples) and drove in four runs, Chris Weimer slugged three doubles and drove-in three runs, Logan Watkins had three hits and two RBI, and Kevin Soto had three hits and an outfield assist, leading the EXST Cubs to a 12-3 drubbing of the EXST Angels at Fitch Park Field #3 this morning in hot & sunny Mesa.

A native of Rotterdam, Kemp was the second player signed by the Cubs out of the MLB European Baseball Academy (Italian RHP Alessandro Maestri was the first) and was a member of the Team Netherlands provisional roster for the WBC, and like Cubs 2B Mike Fontenot, the 5'8 might-mite really packs some punch. Both of Kempy's triples today were opposite field shots slammed off the right-centerfield fence.

20-year old Venezuelan RHP Robert Hernandez, who is at EXST rehabbing from a sprained ankle suffered in a game at Papago Park the last week of Minor League Camp, pitched two innings today and showed no ill effects. Several of his family and friends were at the game today, and he looks to be about ready to move up to Daytona.

And LHP Chris Siegfried, who was left at Fitch Park at the end of Minor League Camp to work on his mechanics and revamp his delivery, has been promoted to Peoria.

SP Andres Quezada is a former position player. Sean Williams and Adam Spencer were signed out of Australia last year. Chris Weimer was signed this offseason as an UDFA.

It seems like Logan Watkins is always mentioned in the extended spring training articles. What do we know about him that might inspire some excitement?

Despite being a 21st round pick last year, he received a $500,000 bonus. He's pretty athletic (was an all-state QB in HS as an option QB), has good speed and patience but as of now, absolutely no power.

I can't be the only one noticing Vitters gets HBPs quite a bit.

went and saw daytona tonight, and they didnt look too great in the field, 3 errors alone while searle was pitching and then an ugly error by colvin when sasser was pitching. sasser gave up two line shot home runs, and then albaquerque did a good job not letting anymore runs score

searle looked good through 5 although the 2 walks were unusual for him 3 errors in his first 3 innings were probabaly disheartening!

more times than he has walked. :?

He crowds the plate. It's great for him because he has such a quick swing, but it's an inevitable result.

Jake Fox left the game in the seventh inning after being hit with a broken bat while playing first base. Maybe someone can update us on his status if they know more.

Good to see the Dutchman do well - I'll be watching his progress in Boise this season.
