And this little tidbit about the Phils' GM:

“I do not buy numbers defensively. At all,” Amaro said. “I look at fielding percentage. But that other business? I don’t buy it a lick. I think defense is subjective. You know, if you watch a guy, whether he has range or not. You can’t study a guy’s routes to the ball by the numbers. It doesn’t happen.

“We subscribe to what our guys see with their eyes, especially when it comes to defense.”

good for him, that might be why they choose the best free agent outfielder this season...aside from abreu

either that, or the cubs front office is just stupid...which is most likely the case actually

oh come on. ibanez ws a 37 year old .830 OPS corner outfielder with terrible defense. don't act like it was some stupid decision to pass on him because he's been awesome for the first month.

and lol at the abreu comment. he has 5 xbh's total so far, and none of them are homers. he's hitting a flukey .343 and still only has a .799 OPS. when that average drops back to normal levels, his overall numbers are going to look really really bad, especially for a guy with really bad defense.

mmm...you must have not read my responses on this signing of bradley before

it WAS a stupid decision, and i guarantee you that he will have better numbers than milton at the end of 2009...

Good for you making decisions based on a month of this guy's offensive stats.

good for you for putting thoughts into my head, did it ever occur to you that i may have had this opinion way back in the early offseason?

And do you think that one month has validated that opinion?

It wouldn't take much foresight to think that Ibanez would be healthy and produce well, especially in a hitters park with a good lineup. Bradley was an upside signing, everyone knew it. I like Bradley much more, but the health factor is still there and meaningful. I have no doubt that if Bradley remains healthy he will outproduce Ibanez, however, that's a big if.
