That way we can actually have a guy out there who can at least play a major league 3B even if he's sucking at the plate. Fontenot is completely worthless at the plate and he is not a third baseman, period. He just cost Lilly 4 runs because he thought he was playing second.

The fact that we have a payroll this huge and zero depth is a joke.

Does Ray Durham play 3B? I was looking at his stats and didnt realise quite how good he is. Hes always OPSing aound .800 and has some power, and he switch hits, which makes one wonder why did we give Aaron Milles a 2 year deal?

Is Grudzielanek(sp?) an option? He put up a .299/.345/.743 line last year, which isn't great but certainly more than Fontenot/Miles are producing right now and certainly more than Gathright will ever produce (the guy Grud would likely replace on the roster).

Who did those guys end up with?

Hopefully Lou will have one of his panic moments with Fontenot after tonight's performance and eliminate him from starting third like he did with Hoffpauir in right.

Grudz has only played 31 ML games at 3B, and they were all in his rookie year in 1995 in Montreal.

Durham has never played a major or minor league game at third base.

Well, making smart decisions hasn't been the Cubs M.O. since the offseason started, so they might as well just call up Vitters.

Seriously though, are the O's gonna bother playing Ty Wigginton when Mora comes back?

Why burn an option year on him (not to mention add him to the 40 man roster).

Was a joke. Hence the "Seriously though"

I could see Jimbo offering to pick up a small chunk of Bobby Crosby's contract. That might be marginally better than running Koyie Hill out there at 3rd way too often.

How is that certainly more production than Fontenot right now? (.759 ops)

Sounds like Aramis is probably going to be DLed. Are we really going to have to deal with Fontenot at 3rd and Miles at second for the next week and a half?

There's plenty of room on the 40-man to add a couple of 3b, if needed.

Iowa doesn't seem to have a true 3b either, and the two guys at Tennessee (Mota and Reynolds) haven't had a great start. So that leaves free agency or trade, I guess.

It would be more like a week. If Aram is Dled it would undoubtedly be backdated, so the games he's already missed would count toward the 15 days.

Im betting they bring up Fox, and at least give him a look at third. I cant see them making a trade for 11 or 12 games, or whatever Aramis is scheduled to miss. Maybe if they could find a guy who can play 3rd and outfield and get rid of Gathright when Aramis comes back. Mark Teahen could have been that guy, but it doesnt look the the Royals are in selling mode at this point.

Eteban German could have been the guy, but hes long since been kicked to the curb, and Luis Rivas is on the DL, so there arent many options.

The more I think about it, Mark Teahen could be an asset to this team. While his bat wont wow anyone, it would be an upgrade over Miles or Gathright, and while he would be an everyday starter, he could rack up PT spelling Ramirez, Bradley, and Fontenot when needed. The problem is, as long as Alex Gordons injured, hes probably not going anywhere.

fox can't play third. at all.

Our options appear to be Miles at 2B and Fontenot at 3B or Fontenot at 2B and Fox at 3B. The first option hasn't worked out great. I wouldn't mind giving the 2nd option a run.
