Do you think we'll get a lot of posts?

I merged it because I figured it'd be you and Tranny talking to yourselves and we already had an NBA thread.

If you want, go ahead and start it again.

Eh, I guess I can see your point.

By the way, congrats LeBron. Way to start your championship run in dramatic fashion.

Yao has 24 pts on 9-9 shooting at halftime. He's also 6-6 from the free-throw line. I love having the best center in the league on my team.

Somewhere, Dwight Howard is frowning.

I figured somebody would bring that up. The two of them are dead even by most experts opinions. About half choose Howard and half choose Yao. I choose Yao for obvious reasons but you should look at their head-to-head stats.

Which experts would these be?

I don't really think it's even all that close.

Yao is a better shooter. Leaps and bounds a better shooters. But, what does he do better than Howard outside of jump shots and FTs?

Howard has only missed 3 total games in his 5 seasons in the league.

Yao has missed 93 in 7 seasons.

Howard is much better defensively and pulls down a whole lot more boards.

Yao's not just a better shooter...he's a better overall offensive player. Better shooter, better post moves, better passer, etc. Howard is still pretty raw when it comes to establishing himself on the block and carrying an offense that way. In fact, I'm not sure he'll ever be a true #1 option on offense in the mold of Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, etc.

If you've got Howard, you've got to surround him with shooters because you can take him out of the game offensively otherwise. But yeah, I'd still take Howard because of his defense, youth, health, and conditioning (Yao isn't going to ever be a guy that can play 40 minutes consistently).

Considering the Lakers were up by 20 at one point, I'm not really liking that it's a 10 point game right now. They should have buried the Jazz a quarter ago.

If this is a discussion of who you would want now AND for the future its Howard hands down. But as for who is the best right now that is very much up for debate. I don't think you can pick wrong either way.

The head to head stats FWIW are ...

Rockets 7-2

Yao: 23.6 pts 10.4 rebs 2.11 blks 58.1 FG%

Howard: 12.2 pts 9.6 rebs 1.97 blks 45.1 FG%

That probably includes stats from Howard's first couple of years

It does but ..

This year it was ...

Rockets 2-0

Yao: 21 pts, 14.5 rebs (4.0 off), 1.5 blks, 1.5 stls, 1.5 to, 60.7 FG%

Howard: 13 pts, 9.5 rebs (2.0 off), 2.5 blks, 0.5 stls, 2.0 to, 47.6 FG%

Last year it was ...

Tied 1-1

Yao: 22.5 pts, 13.5 rebs (5.5 off), 1.5 blks, 1.0 stls, 3.5 to, 47.2 FG%

Howard: 18.5 pts, 9.5 rebs (1.5 off), 2.0 blks, 1.5 stls, 1.0 to, 50.0 FG%

the sixers won? what the hell?

Dang, they were down 10+ in the third quarter so I turned the game off.

Whoops.

I saw it at 77-61 at one point and tuned out. Turned it back on just in time for the final shot though.

Brandon Roy is fantastic. He's easily my favorite non-Bull, non-Russell Westbrook in the NBA.

Cleveland with the sweep. Now to wait at least 7 days to find which second round opponent we'll beat in 5 games.

Congrats on the sweep. Hopefully either Josh Smith and Joe Johnson, or Dwyane Wade give the Cavs more then they bargin for.
