I realize this is reading a HUGE amount into the first week of the season, and we're a long ways from the trading deadline, but if Cleveland continues to be a sad excuse for a baseball team, surely Kerry Wood would be available. He's only got a 2 year deal, at $10 million this year, and $10.5 million next. He does have a 3rd year at $11 million vesting if he finishes 55 games in either of the 2 years of the contract. If Kevin Gregg continues to be crap on a stick, would bringing Kerry back be something you'd be interested in? Especially if the never-ending Peavy thing doesn't pan out.

If it was a salary clearing move, you might even be able to get him relatively cheaply.

Unless Ricketts says that he wants a huge budget for 2010, I wouldn't want to spend over 10 million for a closer. The Cubs are going to be really tight on the moves they can make after 09 already. I wouldn't want to shut the door on something like re-signing Harden because of re-acquiring Wood.

I had no problem with giving Kerry Wood the contract he ended up getting, but I would have problems giving up tradeable assetts to get him AND taking on that contract. As much as I love KW, he'd have to come at virtually no cost player wise for it to be worth it.

On mlb radio the other day they had some reporter saying that they think there will be a lot of salary dump type trades at this years deadline because of poor attendance in some places. So getting Wood back for free is more plausible than it would have been say 2 years ago.

That being said, it's much more likely that the Cubs try to trade for a LH set up, move Old Style to Marmol's role and move Marmol to closer.

Can we have Grady too? We'd love to have the Ladies in the bleachers for fan cam in the summer.
During the Indians game they showed Grady and DeRo talking to each other in the dugout. Easily the best looking teammate combo in the league.
