Whoever had "April 12" and "groin" in the Milton Bradley injury pool, please claim your winnings at my desk. ... I don't understand why, against right-handed pitchers, the Cubs would ever bat Mike Fontenot behind Kosuke Fukudome or Ryan Theriot. Fontenot gets on base more often and slugs with great and relentless ferocity. It would stand to reason that a team wants its stronger hitters to receive more plate appearances than its lesser ones. ... Was Rich Harden just messing around during spring training? Because he was a different guy in his first regular-season start than he was in March, when his fastball was a gentle embrace on a sweet spring morning..

I like Larry Dobrow.

Yea, Cubs bias aside his blurbs are pretty good.

Hilarious.

For purposes of the 2009 Power Rankings, all games played against the Astros will be stricken from the record. Beating the Astros is like beating a bunch of gloveless nuns and should be weighted as such. ... They should start the inevitable rebuilding process yesterday.

I like Larry Dobrow.

Seems like an odd nit to pick when Theriot is hitting around .500 and Fukudome is OPSing over 1.000.

I was just thinking that.

Another Dobrow bit that made me chuckle, regarding closers:

Chicago White Sox: The pro-Bobby Jenks argument: He boasts excellent control and a torso shaped uncannily like a keg. The anti-Bobby Jenks argument: He throws in the high-90s but doesn't strike anybody out anymore, was shopped enthusiastically during the offseason, and had back issues during 2008 (these couldn't possibly be related to his conditioning, which might best be described as "hypothetical").

Jenks was shopped? I'd take him on the Cubs about now.

Cubs shouldn't be #1... where can I get this guy's job?

Why not? I'm not saying I necessarily think they should be number 1, but I certainly don't think its out of the realm of debate at all.

This.

Florida then Seattle are at the top of my week 1 power rankings... Cubs are 3rd.

It isn't solely about their records. If it were, they would just be standings, not power rankings. Those teams are not better than the Cubs. And what in the world puts Seattle ahead of the Cubs but not San Diego or Baltimore? For the record, none of those teams are teams I'd put ahead of the Cubs.

For one... Seattle's pitching has been ridiculous... upon looking further at the stats it's a tie on the top between like 5-6 teams. So yea the guy could logically put the Cubs at the top.

1st week power rankings are LOL.
